Re:

Resmed (my mask manufacturer) says cleaning the mask once a week is sufficient. (although I do wipe the cushions off with a baby wipe every evening). They recommend taking it apart for cleaning, but last time I did that I lost a critical valve piece for about 6 hours. It was small, transparent, sof...

Re: HOW I MODIFIED MY MASK TO PREVENT LEAKS! (SEE PHOTOS)

That is GREAT!! My Swift II was leaking in the exact same spots. I just got a new mask (luckily for free), but that is a great idea. I may have to bring the Swift back with a few modifications!

GOOD WORK!!! Who says some ole fashion rigging can't "get er' done?" HA!

Re: Affordable Battery Backup

Be careful buying used APC units, there were a ton of them floating on the used market few years back without batteries, that is because they were recalled by APC for fire hazard with their inverter board, APC sent out replacement units and you were to remove your battery and install it in the repl...

Great. I am glad that you are taken care of. All CPAP users should have some sort of battery back-up power, regardless of which method used.

Re: Affordable Battery Backup

Would this model be able to power two xPAPs at the same time? How long would the battery last with two? In our case, both APAPs with lower settings of 9 and 10, 90% for both of us 12. Thanks. I have found that almost all CPAP/APAP machines run around (or at) 1.0 Amp each. According to APC's website...

Affordable Battery Backup

I am a fellow CPAP user and would like to help anyone interested in keeping there CPAP/APAP machines running, in case of a power outage. Battery Backup units not only keep units running when the power is out.... they also have a surge compressor and brownout "booster" (they have a "Smart Boost" feat...

Re: Battery Back-Up in Case of Power Outage

I really don't understand the adversity here regarding a UPS. It seems the thread author made a reasonable initial statement and is trying to be helpful. Next the experts jump in and troubleshoot the subject to death. Makes me wonder if being helpful is worth the arrows. My concern about UPS's is n...

Re: Battery Back-Up in Case of Power Outage

My deep cell battery is no more of a fire hazard than a UPS, nor is it an eye-sore. Nobody would know that I had a deep cell battery unless I opened the door and showed it to them. My Li-Ion battery is the size of a hard back book, can be tucked anywhere, can be used on an airplane, and it will pow...

Re: Surge Protection

Then one day Johnny moved out of the neighborhood, changed his name to Cameron, and started selling UPS! Oh, I crack myself up. (Sorry, Cameron, I'm sure it's good stuff.) In all seriousness, I use a well-made surge-protector power strip. But that's mostly because I unplug my machine every morning ...

Re: Battery Back-Up in Case of Power Outage

A deep cycle battery and charger that will power a CPAP for at least 3 to 5 nights costs about $150 (or less). My current CPAP backup battery is a Li Ion CPAP battery that will power my CPAP for more than two nights -- and I can use it on an airplane. I also have a large deep cycle battery that sho...

Re: Surge Protection

I contatced Respironics a while back to enquire which surge protector they might suggest for my machine. They said that I should not use a surge protector but that the machine should be plugged directly into the wall outlet. What does anyone think about this? Thanks. I would get a UPS... it not onl...

Re: Battery Back-Up in Case of Power Outage

Gerald, Thanks for the reply. This is a very broad question with many possible answers. Perhaps the unit took a strong surge (lightning strike nearby)... maybe the unit has been exposed to extended brownouts and the system "gave out" over time... was the unit in an air conditioned environment?? How ...
