Apnea Clusters
http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww216/2Paul2/Nov10-09.jpg Enclosed (I hope) is what happened last night. Such a cluster happens once evry three to seven nights. When no apnea clusters occur, most of the time the AI is in the range of 0.5 to 4.0. What to do? Local MDs and RTs have been of no help...

Afraid To Use FFM--BPM Too High
For over 5 years I have been looking for a FFM that I could wear—finally found one that, with the help of some foam tape on my nose, I could tolerate. But now I am afraid to use it.—BPM go too high and I feel very yucky the next day (even though the other numbers aren’t too bad, at least for me). Us...

New ResMed VPAP S and ResScan 3,7
Growing pains. Would appreciate very much some help. The menu on the VPAP S requires a mask selection from one of four categories. Each category contains the names of different ResMed masks. I made a choice based on a WAG (wild ass guess). I assume the four categories are four different ranges of ve...

SAG Go to bed and hook yourself up to your machine NOW. Lie there awake for about an hour, breathe like you normally do when you go to bed, including any "controlled breathing" stuff, such as like when you mentioned about how 3 seconds isn't time enough to get a breath. Do a download. Post it. Wasn'...

Re: Mouth sealed completely--AHIs go through roof
SAG I will do as directed in your last post, but, in the meantime, here is the Daily Report from last night--did sleep well and the report looks pretty good to me. The only changes I made for last night, as compared to previous nights, were: 1. No slow breathing. 2. Slept on side instead of back. 3....

Re: Mouth sealed completely--AHIs go through roof
Thanks to all for the responses. Below are two Daily Reports--machine setings and mask were the same for both. The machine is a Respironics Auto Series M. Its settings are; Therapy Mode Bilevel BiFlex Setting 1 IPAP 11.0 EPAP 8.5 Ramp Time 0 Nasal Aire II Extra large cannula Factory published vent r...

Re: Mouth sealed completely--AHIs go through roof
GimbyCT The machine, a new one, was supplied about 5 months ago by the VA. Someplace around here I have a water manometer (the scale is even in cm!) that I can check the pressure with. Not particulary easy to read (it is not an inclined manometer) but should be good enough. Something that I have not...

Re: Mouth sealed completely--AHIs go through roof
My thanks to all who responded. I talked to a Respironics tech today. He told me that the Series M respond to, and record reliably, apneas for leak rates up to 60 or 65 L/m. At 75 L/m Series M handle some, miss some. Much above 75 L/m--nothing. Earlier I posted 4 Daily Reports--two looked horrible, ...

Re: Mouth sealed completely--AHIs go through roof
I was so surprised when, after 5 or 6 error messages, the daily screens were posted that I didn't post some pertinent informatiom. The first part of the last screen, 1/5/2009, was with my "porous pillow" of paper tape over my mouth. The last part screen is a record of what happens when there there i...

Surprise, Surprise, the screen shots themselves came through on the first 2. Here are the next 2.

Re: Mouth sealed completely--AHIs go through roof
Have, I think, the URLs on photobucket--tried to post them 3 times but each time received an internal error message. Do not know what else to do. Would like to post the screen shots themselves but have not been able to find any specific instructions (and I do need specifics) for that either. Thanks ...

Mouth sealed completely--AHIs go through roof
If I stop my mouth leak completely, the AHI readout on Encore Viewer goes up through the roof. The machine is a Respironics Bipap Auto Series M, set to the Bilevel (non-auto) mode, pressure 11/8. I am using a Nasal Aire II cannula (extra large). I can embed a picture in an email but have not been ab...

Which Machine?
I presently am using a Respironics Bipap Auto Series M set on 11/8 cm H2O (straight Bipap, no Auto).. My normal breathing pattern requires a longer TI than permitted by this machine. A Respironics tech told me that the TI is hardwired at 3sec, and my observations agree. I need a machine that has a l...
