Topic: New CPAP user -- do I need a chinstrap?

I don't like the chinstrap. I can't find a good position for it and it invariably winds up off of my face and dangling off the hose. So it has retired to my bedside table. Now that the CPAP is keeping my airway open, my husband says I make absolutely NO noise at night and my mouth is staying shut. Y...

I was lucky enough to start out with a Remstar Auto, and I think it made all the difference in helping me accept therapy. With the C-flex on, and the self-adjusting pressure, it hasn't felt forced or hard to exhale, like I noticed on CPAP during my sleep study.

Product Reviews

A lot of websites that I visit will include product reviews/ratings that consumers can enter/read as they shop. I wonder why cpap.com doesn't do this as well? It seems like they'd have no end of feedback, and the ratings would make it a little easier to compare products without sifting through all t...

Re: yes

Is it possible to re-breath CO2 and get too much of it, on CPAP? I am beginning to think that as one uses the CPAP/APAP consistently, one probably develops stronger breathing muscles (diaphragm, intercostals, etc.) and can actually push harder and breathe stronger against the machine. I had the occ...

Thanks, Jere!
I'm going to use a room humidifier tonight and see if that helps. I wonder if NASA ever had this problem with the astronaut helmets?????

I really wish I had found this forum before I went with a DME. I agree----it really does seem like the DMEs bump up the price of CPAPs so that the patient winds up paying the retail price in co-pays. That's what has happened to me. In fact, the cost on cpap.com for the machine and accessories that I...

Snoreless but Soggy!

Raindrops keep falling on my nose! I'm waiting for the heated hose to arrive, and am not using the humidifier at all while I wait. The last couple of nights, I've noticed a wet nose in spite of it, and am finding condensation inside my nasal mask. This is not the sort of facial I had in mind!! While...

Congratulations on the decision to go with the heated tube! I just ordered mine as well, and got the email yesterday that it was being shipped. Talk about some great customer service! I love that the email reply includes an attachment explaining which adapter is needed (including the Radio Shack pro...

"Stable" heart failure is simply referring to the fact that the heart is being controlled at a certain level of failure---not getting worse and not causing any immediate problems with swelling or breathing.

I'm thinking about what George Costanza would do. Maybe he would use the hose to cover the Festivus pole?! They say the spray from the flush of a toilet infects the entire bathroom; so if your toothbrush is on the counter, you've already been there and done that! (Yuck!) With that said, I think you ...

This study was in patients with stable heart failure. That disqualifies a lot of us. I don't have any heart failure. It would be great if they could come up with a pill to help sleep apnea before your heart starts failing.....

Thanks to everyone for advice and responses. I just ordered a heated hose from sleepzone.com. Can someone please tell me what adapter I need to ask for when I go to Radio Shack? I can't wait to receive it and see what all of you are talking about!!!

I have been told by 2 RTs now that the Flexifit 407 is a great choice. It's the only mask I've tried, and I've been able to tolerate it okay (although my husband still can't stop laughing at how I look with it on!). I have strap marks on my face in the mornings, but no irritation. The top of the mas...

Wow, Janelle, that's the kind of result I want to see! After only a week of therapy, I know how Suzy feels. I was hoping for amazing results; my doctor said it would happen, but I was skeptical, and turns out I was right to be. I have noticed that I at least feel as if I've had some sleep in the mor...

I'm not real excited about having to take any more medication on a regular basis. Nyquil has alcohol in it, also.
