Re: Ubuntu and Respironics Encore Viewer
Yes, please hold that thought keep us updated on your progress. I also prefer to use Linux Ubuntu, which is installed at the moment on our "second best" computer. I'm still keeping Windows XP on our more powerful computer to run those things that just won't run in anything else -- mostly work-relate...

Hose management on a leather sofa
I've just returned from a visit to my daughter, who has a tiny apartment where guests sleep on her sofa. I wanted to secure the hose near my pillow as I do at home to avoid rainout, but did not want to stick pins in her brand-new leather sofa. My daughter thought for a minute, then stuffed a tea tow...

New Doc and Upgraded Machine
Celebration time! I found (with my family doctor's encouragement) a new, accredited sleep doctor who is in-network for my insurance. More importantly, he appears to know what he is doing, and even better, he listens . I came away with a prescription for a data-capable machine and a slight change in ...

Re: Zen of the Mask
I'm bringing this delightful thread back up to the top because Carbonman's post articulates very well what I would like to say, too. Let's see... I'm 65 days into the exercise and have "masked up" every night (though I did cheat for several hours early one morning when I had a nasty head cold). It i...

Re: Ultra Mirage Questions
I also had the problem with the lowest strap going around the back of my neck and was able to remedy this somewhat by getting out the sewing machine and shortening the strap that goes across the top of my head. I wore an Ultra Mirage full face mask briefly; it seems to be a perfectly good mask but i...

Re: CPAP & Roseaca
You might consider trying baby shampoo. I'm new to CPAP but have had rosacea for years. My rosacea is mostly on my nose and eyelids. It is affected not at all by the nasal-pillow-type full face mask I'm wearing now. Before that I tried a true full face mask, but only used it for a couple of weeks so...

Re: How did you end up with the XPap you have?
Allinknots, thank you so much for starting this discussion. I am at a similar place in my quest for xpap that works and have been reading avidly over your shoulder, learning a lot. I suspect I'm not the only newbie doing so. Also, many thanks to those who are offering advice. Even though I've been d...

Re: CPAP and Electric loss
Thanks for mentioning this. Your comment inspired me to stop procrastinating about phoning the electric company about that very thing. They made a note on our record and said I should have the forms to send back some time next week. It was too easy! Since my husband restores cars we already have a b...

Re:
Sounds like your experiences have been very similar to mine. I suffer from chronic sinus problems, and my nasal passages will close up in a heartbeat. I was addicted to afrin/sinex/etc. for several years because it was the ONLY thing that kept me from banging my head against a wall from the claustr...

Re: Questions for the other mouth-breathers among us
Many thanks for all your suggestions. I'm still waiting for the RT to call back, but that is just as well; more time for me to plan exactly what to ask! As for saline rinses -- been using the NeilMed Sinus Rinse squirty bottle for years. Thanks for the tip anyway; it's a very good one. As for the Br...

Questions for the other mouth-breathers among us
All right, I've been using CPAP for about 40 days now and it is pretty darn magical. I even have had a night or two when I slept all the way through. But now that I've got the basics down I find that I still have questions. I usually try to start the evening breathing through my nose, but it often g...

Successful trade of Hybrid mask parts with buckeyeman. Good communication, prompt shipping, parts exactly as described.
I would trade with him again on this forum any time.

Re: Adjustment period
I'm only about a month into the exercise myself, but at least so far I can tell you that a)it has definitely been an exercise in problem solving and b)it is getting better, very quickly. At first I would wake up in the middle of the night for no good reason and basically be done with sleeping for th...

Re: Humidity and AHI
This thread got me to thinking -- and to finding out what the relative humidity actually is where I live. So I checked the National Weather Service web site. The night that turning down the humidifier didn't work for me, we were bumping along at our usual summer teens/low twenties for per cent relat...

Re: Humidity and AHI
You betcha! What makes me sad is knowing there are the "uninformed" XPAP users out there who didn't/haven't questioned why their therapy isn't working even though they obediently followed the instructions of their "medical professionals" and haven't found the support groups on the Internet. Most ca...
