Re: Mask Leak Rate Experiment
There could be a leak coming from somewhere else other than where it seals to your face. -there could be a hole in your hose -the mask may not be assembled properly...if you took it apart to clean it, sometimes it's hard to get the parts back together tightly -sometimes the exhaust port vents too mu...

Re: cheyne Stroke Respiration
If you had Cheyne Stokes breathing, it would happen all the time. While running sleep studies, I've seen what looks like that at times but that is usually due to a mask leak, discomfort, or something bothering or making the individual uncomfortable. It could be many things. If you can, check your le...

Re: Newbie Here, Sleep Study Tonight
Emilia is right. Even though that night wasn't close to normal for you, as long as you sleep a little, they can tell if you have sleep disordered breathing or sleep apnea. They may want you to go back for a second night so they can try out CPAP. If they do, be sure to bring things that would make yo...

Re: another sleep study, different results--opinion
[quote="NotMuffy Apparently, they used the Alternate definition of hypopnea where desaturations are not required, only arousals. Indeed, if the Recommended definition was used, her diagnostic AHI might have been darn near 0.0. With the sleep architecture and efficiency being horrid, this may be a ca...

Re: Is this out of line?
For home studies, Medicare pays about $200. If you pay cash out of your own pocket for one, it's about $300. Something fishy is going on with your situation. If that Doc's office won't work with you, I'm sure your insurance company would like to know the details. Intuition tells me if the Doc's offi...

Could you give us more details from your sleep study? AHI or RDI....Apneas or hypopneas? What kind of therapy are you using..CPAP or BiPAP or ??? Details, details, details... When you use any PAP, it takes a little time to feel the effect. Some people take a couple of weeks. You are in the right pla...

http://www.instantdiagnostic.com/ids/default.aspx This company makes it quick and easy for a home study. Even your family doc can write a prescription for this. Your family doc can also handle the therapy part as well. Your hubby may like the simple, "no big deal" approach. Good Luck!

Re: Just got a look at my full sleep study. how bad is 74% SaO?
I suggest having an overnight oximetry done. Your doc should be able to write a prescription for the study. They will use one of their units. This way, it will be covered by insurance and you don't have to buy one. After that, if you want to continue monitoring your oxygen level, then buy one.

Re: Just in--home diagnosis of sleep apnea as effective as PSG
Here is a great discussion on the topic. http://www.sleepguide.com/forum/topics/ ... s-vs-inlab
In it you will find the pro's and con's of the two. Personally, as a sleep tech, I would want an in lab study because they record more "things" and are analyzed more rigorously.

The Fisher&Paykel Representative told me the ICON comes out in September. This machine seems to be like Resmed's S9, but has some things like an MP3 player and clock! http://www.fphcare.com/osa/cpap-solutio ... premo.html
Anyway, F&P makes good machines. I use one at home.
