Re: Power went out at 1AM

I always worried about power loss while on CPAP, but when it eventually happened, I just woke up vaguely feeling like I needed more air and pulled the mask off while still half-asleep. Simple - no choking or suffocating sensation. Maybe my reaction to shortness of breath has been dampened somewhat b...

Re: getting to sleep with the CPAP

If you're a bit sensitive to your surroundings when sleeping, ramp and expiration relief settings can make a big difference. At my titration study, the sleep tech commented that I woke up every time she changed the pressure... I laughed at this, but found that I couldn't get to sleep easily until I ...

Re: getting to sleep with the CPAP

If you're fairly new to your mask, it would be worthwhile reading through the docs and ensuring that it's assembled correctly and everything is in place. My mask has a clip on the hose attachment which can be fiddly at times and if it's not quite engaged properly fresh air will be blown out of the m...

Re: Activa questions

I've been using the Activa for nearly 2 months at a pressure of 7, and aside from a couple of minor niggles, I reckon it's great. I suppose it might be a tad heavier than some of the others I tried, but once you connect a hose, I think the mask weight becomes a non-issue compared to the weight of th...

Changing sleep habits on CPAP...

After a month or so on CPAP, I stilll wasn't feeling any better during the days.. still sleepy during the day with no energy, aches & pains, yawning & watery eyes etc. My numbers on the machine had been pretty damn good, with HI < 5 and AI <= 0.2 most nights. Just last week, it occured to me that I ...

Unforgiven - works on so many levels... Leon: The Professional - and almost anything with Gary Oldman... The Fifth Element - another Luc Besson film with Gary Oldman again (the aforementioned Zorg) and introducing Natalie Portman... Mebbe ye edited your message badly there.. the lovely Miss Portman...

I'm not certain that I've even seen the best movie ever made, but Fight Club is certainly a personal favourite. I first saw it years after it's cinematic debut and I'd mostly forgotten the ads I'd seen (they put me on totally the wrong track about the movie anyway). The movie sucked me in, made me w...

Margarine is horrible, synthetic chemical filth... butter is processed cow lactation, but supermarket butter bears only slightly more resemblance to traditional butter than margarine does (horrible, somewhat natural chemical filth) . Choose yer poison They change their minds on the role of cholester...

I played Saxophone for many years at school, but haven't picked it up for ages.. I've got an electric guitar and a bass that I play (poorly) on and off for my private amusement and I occasionally dabble with keyboards. Played Sax with school bands etc, never performed publically or in a group with t...

... you could hold it up in the air and breath through it like a reed pipe, that might help unless the water got too deep. Heh, DeNile is a real bugger to cross... especially when there's docs circling you in army ducks shouting through megaphones "Oh, there's nothing wrong with you - you're just d...

Re: Didgeriddo

You don't suppose it's because they make money selling them, surely not. Invest in a XPAP machine that gives data, and better sleep. Jim People make money selling XPAP machines too.. I bet you're in league with 'em! I don't think anyone's suggesting didgeridoo playing as a substitute for XPAP treat...

Yeah, I'd say the circular breathing is damn good exercise for the muscles involved in keeping yer airway open against the pressure coming from the mouth while you're blowing out with your cheeks. Just blowing my cheeks up and breathing through my nose without any digeridoo involved creates some int...

I've heard similar reports about didgeridoo playing, but no scientific explanation of how/why it works (or even any real evidence that it works at all). I imagine it has less to do with the act of blowing through a large tube, and more to do with the actual exercise the players mouth, tongue and thr...

Yeah, I get the hypnic/hypnogogic jerks. Usually happens when I'm just drifting off to sleep. I'll start to feel like I'm falling and then jolt awake. Kinda interesting and amusing, but annoying if I'm actually wanting to sleep. Doesn't usually make my heart race, but jolts me to alertness. Asked my...
