An update: it was the software.

CPAP.com did the right thing and gave me a link to a place where I could download the latest 3.5 version.

This worked great right away. And I can also confirm that 3.5 runs on Vista.

Interesting feedback. I went to my sleep doc's office yesterday and they could not download either (same issue as I had). I am going to the DME today and will see if they have better luck -- and if so, if they're using newer version of the software. So now that I got ripped off by CPAP.com by sellin...
