Re: Anyone get off of CPAP by losing weight?

I have been told by my sleep doctor and two pulmonologists that if I were to lose weight, I would have a terrific chance of getting off the machine. One pulmonologist who I'm seeing for asthma and allergies that has scoped my airway stated outright that she saw no abnormalities in my airway that wou...

There seems to be quite a bit of controversy even among People Who Should Know Such Things about whether petroleum can spontaneously combust in the presence of pure oxygen. This sounds like a job for Myth Busters. I wouldn't take the chance myself. I think the confusion is most people don't underst...

If you use oxygen with your xPAP, then vaseline should be out of the question. Vaseline (or any other petroleum product) reacts violently with oxygen. The chemical reaction can spontaneously combust and catch fire. I worked in a hospital - trust me on this one. It's a big fire hazard. http://www.fda...

Channel Four (CBS) has had sleep apnea featured two nights in a row but the info is pretty limited and fragmented. I wrote to Dr. Dave Hnida and asked him if he'd do a little segment on apnea but I never got a response - no time for the little people (he's probably a pretty busy guy). Here's a link ...

I have the same mask. I've noticed slight strap marks on the right side of my face in the morning. I just jump in the shower after I wake up. When my shower is over, I go to shave and the marks have always been gone by the time I'm ready to shave. Maybe the hot water and steam from the shower are he...

I started with my CPAP two ago this Weds. so I'm very new to this as well. My AHI started out at 4.8 and this morning I noticed my 7 day average has dropped to 2.2

I'm still a bit sleepy but it's encouraging to see things improving. I say give it some time and good luck!

60 Minutes to Report on sleep

Just wanted to pass along the heads up that on Sunday, 60 Minutes is doing a report on "sleep". Not sure what it will cover but according to the ad, it's a double length segment.

I know some of the drug companies have programs for people that are needs based and they determine eligibility based on income.

I don't know if any of the CPAP companies do the same though.

The correct term may be "125 plan". A cafeteria plan is just one that allows you to choose which benefits you want -- or don't want. Some allow you to get money back for not using some of the coverages. Most 125 plans do not reimburse for over the counter items. Contact their customer service peopl...

Taxes

Hey everyone! New to the forum and new to apnea (got my machine last Weds.). Looks like I'll be spending a lot more money than I usually do for health care this year. I need to start saving reciepts and was wondering if, aside from the obvious stuff (xpap, mask, tubing, etc.) if anyone has taken ded...
