Re: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning & CPAP
Just a thought towards solving the mystery of why a man using CPAP was fatally exposed, while his wife in the same bed was not. CO is heavier than air, and will settle lower in a quiet room. If his CPAP was located on the floor, that alone would explain his higher exposure and fatal dose.

Re: Travel (Portable) CPAP
SecondwindCPAP is a fine supplier, but will be about twice as expensive for the S9 model referenced, and will require a prescription which the O.P. indicates is not available. I have also worked with Greyghost4 and will vouch for his honesty and diligence in providing quality machines at a price tha...

Re: Titration study needed?
You have a Dx for obstructive sleep apnea, and the patient right to decline any procedure or test. Request the Rx for an auto-cpap. Insurance will probably allow it with the sleep study and doctor Rx, however, failing that, you could still buy a Dreamstation Auto with heated hose on Amazon for about...

Re: Desperate zombie tears into Respironics 750P blower
This was a common error in the PRS1 50 series. I'm surprised no one directed you to this thread http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t106093/BEEPBEEP-Service-Required-on-PR-550P.html This is an image of the retrofit screw in that thread, and I think it's a #10. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j147/mo...

Re: Procedure for sanitizing a used machine
Any machine that has been used in a smoking household if very hard to clean to eliminate the odor. For machines that do not have that problem, Palerider's suggestion works fine. I also do not reuse hoses or masks that have been in the used breathing circuit. Machines that have odors that do not come...

Re: Full face mask
A lot of us find that CPAP pressure allows us to breath through our nose as the pressure expands sinuses and enables easy breathing. You can try the nasal mask for a while, and your machine will track your leak rate. If you have excess leaks from mouth breathing, then the FFM may be your best option...

Re: Difference between central and obstructive Hypopnea???
What is the best way to apply therapy for increasing Central apneas just as Hypopneas and Obstructive Apneas are going down? I'm leery of increasing pressure as I think that will increase leaking and Obstructive apneas. My pressure on BiLevel (APAP) is 5.6 low and 9.6 high. At that pressure, my OSA...

Re: Insurance replacement of machine question..
If your Airsense 10 Autoset is still fully working and only 3-years old, why would you expect an insurance replacement? You've done the right thing to have a backup plan, but this is a pretty good example of insurance policies working properly to keep costs down for the pool of insured individuals, ...

Re: Having trouble adjusting
Masks are very individual for comfort. If you tolerate nasal therapy without mouth leaks, you should do everything you can to avoid using a full face mask. As smaller interface is more comfortable and less likely to become dislodged. Nasal pillow masks tend to stay in place better than Dreamwear. Fi...

Re: CPAP tube cleaner
Being unconventionl, I use Star San, a brewery and food grade acid sanitizer. Properly dilute it (1-oz / 5-gallons), put about half a quart into the hose, move it back and forth, and empty it out. It's actually a lot gentler than it sounds, and leaves a surface that is anti-bacterial. Without rinsin...

Re: Info on Resmed Aircurve Needed
It's worth trying to keep insurance in the loop on this. I agree the machine you want is the Resmed Aircurve 10 Vauto. I use that machine, and it is an insurance replacement for my old Respironics M-Series Remstar Auto. It wasn't easy to get approved for the bilevel machine, but working with my PCP ...

I think someone could benefit from that machine, but few charitable organizations are permitted to distribute medical equipment. Keeping the machine as a standby in case of a failure of your primary machine is something many of us do.

Re: Need to replace my machine - need help selecting new one
Of the machines you're looking at the Resmed Airsense 10 Elite seems closest. It is fixed CPAP, still has EPR and has a nice small footprint. Autoset is not much more expensive, and supports CPAP mode as well. The Resmed S9 is still being sold, so if you liked what you had, the Airsense 10 series is...

Re: CPAP when you are sick
I have always used a nasal pillows mask since 2008. Never missed a night due to a cold or congestion as the pressure seems to relieve the congestion and works. I can sure imagine it is possible someone may be too congested for effective treatment, but speaking for myself, I have not been exempt from...
