Re: ComfortGel Stability Selector
I am in Ontario, Canada and am pretty sure I have to pay for any masks or parts out of my own pocket for the next while. I don't have any private insurance. I know what you are saying but I couldn't see any cracks or damage to any of those areas. The area where the top clips attach looks very insecu...

ComfortGel Stability Selector
The little clips up near the forehead pad of my ComfortGel have started popping out occasionally. I don't know why this is happening. Whether it is just worn down, broken, etc. I think I vaguely remember a very small part somewhere on my ComfortGel but I can't find it now. This could just be my imag...

Actually, I thought about the mask leak issue, but I don't think it matters in terms of testing my machine. I think I am ok as long as the pressure output by my machine is accurate, rather than what the pressure is at the mask level. Let me explain: I wore my mask at the titration study where they d...

Well, thank you everyone! I made a manometer and it showed that my CPAP is working perfectly, accurate to the mm! I can't believe how easy it was. I think I may even have a little trick which makes it a little simpler. Basically, I just folded the tube loosely in half and plugged it right into my ai...

I agree 100% with you, Rooster. My apnea was actually discovered by my psychiatrist after 8 years of treating its psychiatric symptoms! I was eventually hallucinating and becoming psychotic. 4 weeks of CPAP and almost everything vanished, leaving me with just a very mild depression. I definitely wan...

Re: Testing CPAP working correctly on one's own?
............ What is the likelihood that my machine wouldn't be accurate? It is a 1-year old Respironics REMstar M Series Basic and my pressure is at 9. ......... The probability that your machine is not accurate is small. The probability that the prescribed pressure is not optimal for your therapy...

Thanks everyone. Aarrrgghhhh!!!! The way my doctor worded it, I am pretty sure he thought it was free too. I can't believe it is so simple. I complained to the DME before reading this thread, and they dropped the price to $35! Forget that. I'll just build one myself. The explanations are really grea...

Testing CPAP working correctly on one's own?
My doctor said that he wanted the DME to verify that my CPAP is working properly using some special device they have. My DME said that this service will cost $100. Is there anyway I can verify my CPAP is working accurately myself? Basically, he just wants to doublecheck that the pressure is accurate...

Thanks for the replies everyone. The tape I am using is very similar to what some of you are using. I wish I had the packaging still, but I am pretty sure it is the 3M NexCare Paper Tape that some of you mentioned. The only difference is I can only find 1". I would have preferred 2" tape so I could ...

Tape Brand Recommendations
I have been using 1" 3M Comfort Paper Tape for mouth taping (I think Comfort is the name. The rest is definitely correct). It works fairly well, but there is definitely room for improvement. The main issue at the moment is that it can leak slightly. Basically, I can breath directly through the paper...

Thanks for all the replies. I figured the situation was likely much more complicated than I had understood... I can certainly see that leaks, discomfort, etc., would make a higher pressure undesirable, but I do find it strange that a higher pressure could lead to an increased AHI. I don't really und...

Why not just crank it to max?
I am sure this is not a good idea, and am just asking this question in order to better understand OSA. What are the reasons for using a conservative pressure setting, versus setting it significantly higher than the minimal setting required to prevent apneas? In other words, my script calls for 8, bu...

My understanding is that Ontario's program pays a maximum of $750 in assistance towards a CPAP set up every 5 years. I used the program to get my original machine and mask last year, so I won't be eligible again for another 4 years. I am actually not even sure if masks are covered at all. The docume...

I have had that ComfortGel mask for almost 1 year. It was my first mask. My DME said that it was slightly used, so it is likely a few months older. The gel started to change to a green colour after about 4 months, and started to leak after 11 months. I am not sure how long they are supposed to last....
