Tarma, lung volume was increased by an iron lung in the abstract I presented. Teach me to read fast.... Hadn't really thought about airway size and lung volume. I think that might also explain the very weird sensation you get when someone opens a hatch while you are in one of those things. I had th...

Not sure, but I don't think an iron lung would help OSA. I don't see where the negative pressure generated by the iron lung would be that much different than the negative pressure generated by your diaphragm. You could still obstruct As for hyperbaric, I think you would probably still have obstructi...

You could try one of those athletic mouth guards you find at most stores that you mold to your own teeth to block the hole.

Medical errors cost us billions. Lawyers cost us billions. Prisions cost us billions. People who engage in risky behavior for fun and then expect us to pay for their medical care cost us billions. War costs us trillions. You guys sound like you think the only reason people are in the medical field i...

Yep. Everyone is different! If everyone reacted the same we wouldn't need this forum. Just what I've noticed about me so far.

I'm relatively new here. Only been using the machine 3+ months. For me, I've found the machine results to be a tool, not a holy grail. It could be because I'm still getting used to everything, but some nights how I "feel" in the morning does not correlate well with the machine average indicates. I t...

I believe it is the average per hour over the course of the night. I don't know if it is an average of each hour's average, or an average of the total events divided by the hrs of sleep though. On a detailed graph I can see that my average for "each" hour varies and it is obvious the total is an ave...

I think it makes sense that strengthening the throat muscles would help. They would still relax while sleeping, but more tone to start with should also lead to more tone while relaxed. There are exercises to help strengthen the swallow reflex.... This whole discussion has given me some ideas to thin...

My resmed vantage will turn itself off if I take off the nasal pillows, but so far it hasn't turned off when I took off the full mask. Auto on/off is NOT on. I think it must have something to do with a completely unobstructed leak detection. I find it a convenient way to turn it off in the morning a...

Bottom line. Every situation is unique. When WLS goes well, it is fantastic. When it goes wrong, disaster doesn't begin to cover it. Life style change is always preferred, and WLS without a life style change will not work. It does sound like that therapist was jumping the gun a bit (to say the least...
