Re: Homemade chin strap ideas?
I just saw one here from another member that was very cool. http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=49212&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=45#p453624 I modified mine (don't use it anymore), but I never made one from scratch. Can you sew? Maybe you can cut two headbands open, sew them together at one end, cu...

Re: Oily Skin Tip!
Thanks for the Expert Instant Matte tip, OP. I'm going to try that. I'm also going to try some witch hazel to see what helps more. My skin gets very oily very fast, so even if I use alcohol to wipe my whole face by early morning my skin is so oily my mask leaks and starts that loud BZZZZZ! noise whi...

Re: Is this a stupid question?
I have chronic congestion and mouth breathe a lot. I also keep my machine on a timer outlet, and lots of times it's turned off on me when I've slept in late. I tried taping, a chin strap, and a full face mask. I don't know about others, but when I'm asleep my mouth just "drifts" open like my muscles...

Re: Cyber Attack
Unless I missed something, I think only ONE person in this thread stated that there were no viruses for Macs. That's a "person" not "people," at least as far as this thread is concerned. Anyway, I'm not on here often, and I'm finding out a little more information about the original topic of this thr...

Re: Cyber Attack
I've been using Macs (and PC's) since about 1998 and haven't gotten a trojan or virus yet. They do exist, though. They're just rare since Macs constitute a smaller percentage of computers used worldwide making it a less attractive target. As for the question about Word and Excel, they have Mac versi...

Re: Sweet Smell after taking mask off?
After you mentioned it's a bodily sweet smell and you smell it when you sneeze, I had another idea. When your body converts fat to energy that process is called ketosis. (I think there's more to it.) Those who don't eat a lot of carbs experience this more often. One of the effects is a sweet smelli...

Re: Mold in CPAP machine?
If the mold in your apartment was enough to get into your mattress, then it may be in your blankets, pillows, clothing, shoes, towels, appliances, electronics, books, vacuum cleaner, and everything else you had in the old place. Before you take apart your machine, maybe you could haul everything was...

Re: Sweet Smell after taking mask off?
If you're using a humidifier maybe your sense of smell is better when your nasal passages are moist. I don't know if that's true or not, but I notice the same thing when I use my humidifier. EDIT: Also, when I'm using my CPAP I'm not congested -- no allergy symptoms -- so my sense of smell is in goo...

Re: water accumulation in hose and mask
I'm glad someone mentioned the room's temperature. For me, whenever I have rainout it's from when the temperature of the room is in the low 70's or lower and I don't lower the setting of the humidifier accordingly. It's a balancing act -- if you need to have the humidity so high that you have rainou...

Re: weight & cpap
Not too long after I joined this forum there was someone on here who was a regular, very nice, helpful, known and loved by everyone, and one day she wrote that she after losing some weight she was being taken off of CPAP therapy. I think her name was Lori. Not sure if she's still on here. For me, wh...

Re: TSA problems on my vacation
Sorry to hear about your experience, OP. TSA states that "upon request, TSOs will change their gloves prior to performing the visual and physical inspection, and ETD sampling of your CPAP machine." I guess they don't say they'll do it graciously. Last summer was the first time I flew out of Vegas on...

Re: forgetting to breath suddenly (yikes-help?)
That used to happen to me a lot, but mostly before I started CPAP. It only happened when I was conscious of the way I was breathing, thinking about it. I also noticed it when I started CPAP as I was going to sleep, but, again, I think it was because the CPAP make me conscious of how I was breathing,...

Re: Insurance refused on CPAP shipped to Canada: help please
I think there are several very valid points but a few items that have not been mentioned. I know that when I purchased my CPAP device the homecare provider that I purchased through in Ontario spent several hours of their therapists time educating me on obstructive sleep apnea, fitting my mask, teac...

Re: Insurance refused on CPAP shipped to Canada: help please
When I call customer service anywhere for information, I usually also try to find information on from their website, on the web in general, and any information I already have at home about my account/plan. CS is a great resource, but often, in my experience, they're just looking up stuff when you as...
