5 or less is normal for a healthy person without cpap. So I figure if I'm under 5 I'm doing pretty well. If I get close to 5 I start to get nervous and try to figure out what's happening.
Obviously, not a scientifically based answer.

Re: Disadvantages to being diagnosed with Sleep Apnea?
Gotta be honest, I'm all for a diagnosis but it ticks me off that this stuff requires a prescription. I should be able to get one at a drug store. Where's the potential for abuse? It's not like anyone's going pay $500+ to buy a machine they don't need. Worried we'll use the wrong pressure? Heck most...

Re: CPAP machines and enhanced airport security
Bumping for update: I flew at least three trips in the last couple months (all domestic) where I put the machine in my carry-on luggage and ran it through normal xray (no seperate cpap bag). Never asked me to take it out or even open the suitcase. Didn't even ask m e about it or acknowledge it was t...

Big Mistake!
I couldn't find the thread where we discussed whether it was okay to skip one night of therapy. There was a lot of hysterical fretting that you might die or worse! I didn't have Cpap for most of my life (and I'm pretty sure I needed it) and I managed to survive so I don't really subscribe to that ca...

Re: vivid dreams
That's how I knew it was working. I couldn't remember the last time I dreamt. It was kind of shocking when I started CPAP and began having dreams again!

Re: I am ashamed of my cpap?
Okay it's true that people who really care about you won't care but I empathize. It's when I started traveling for work that I felt awkward. I mean as long as it was just my wife and I it was one thing, but now I had to drag it out at airports with my work colleagues - I just didn't need them to hav...

Re: DeVilbiss Wants Your Input
I'm pretty happy with my M series and I like a lot of the suggestions so far but a couple of pet peeves that would apply to any machine: - Quiet Please!! I know the blower is bound to create some noise but geez! I can handle it for the most part but when I go camping I don't want my neighbors to thi...

Blackout curtains sound like too much hassle. Maybe I should get a burka!

Sleeping with blanket over my head?
The other morning, in protest to the sun coming up so dang early I threw my blanket over my head and went back to sleep. Now normally this doesn't really work because after a few minutes of CO2 build up you're brain wakes you up and tells pull your head out (so to speak). But then I got thinking (al...

Re: Waiting for Wow factor to kick in
And don't forget about non-apnea related issues. One thing I love about my machine is the 7 day average of hours of usage. Why? Because it tells me that I'm not getting enough sleep - period. Even though I'm getting much better sleep if I can't keep that average over 7 (which is hard for me) I'm sti...

Camping with Friends
I'm going camping next month with a friend and our boys. They have a trailer and invited me and my 5 year old to stay in their trailer with his 2 boys (they're all best friends). I've got a battery that I've used camping before. Works great and and my boy sees me with my mask all the time so it's no...

Re: distilled water
I use distilled at home but when I travel it's tough to find at a hotel or convenience store. I tried tap water once at it must have been very hard because I had calcium deposits after only a couple of nights. No big deal, some vinegar took it off very nicely). I started to look for bottled water bu...

Re: Chronic runny nose, sneezing?
Had the same problem. Suddenly sneezing and constantly running nose that started shortly after starting CPAP. Went to an allergist - I'm not allergic to anything. Doc says it's changes to weather (pressure mostly). I'm on Nasonex and Astelin. About the same time I started using a humidifier. No prob...

Mine's in the lower drawer of my nightstand. Slide the drawer closed - no lights, less noise.
