Empirical data seems to be that different masks need different pressures to reach the same effect, probably due to the configuration and the route the air has to take to get to the back of your throat. Because it is moving air (versus stagnant, in which case the pressure would stabilize throughout),...

The first few minutes are a little claustrophobic.... but each day it gets a little easier. I'm two weeks into mine and now, I don't even feel it. The only problem I have with it is that my nose sometimes itches and it's hard to itch it through the hard shell. If I could get my nose clear enough to ...

In the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, a hypopnea event is not considered to be clinically significant unless there is a 50% (or greater) reduction in flow and an associated 3% (or greater) desaturation in the person's O2 levels for 10 seconds or longer, or if it results in arousal or f...

Re: Quattro and a sore nose

TWolf, being a user of the Quattro myself, maybe you just slept on it "wrong" one night? Reason I say that is that I do not have any soreness, just a little redness on my nose each morning... but one night it must've been out of adjustment or something, I slept on my side, and my nose was pretty sor...

Thank you all for your quick response. In fact SleepGuy, your hypothesis seems very logical. I’m quite convinced that the night terror episode is directly related to the fact that I took off the mask and suffocated in my sleep apnea. I will definitively work on finding the best mask for me and solv...

After about 8 months with the Optilife, I still love it. It's light, seals well and doesn't cause any sore spots. I will probably end up getting one of those other masks eventually. Ironically, I tried the Optilife first, could not tolerate the nasal pillows at all. I may try it once I'm fully accl...

I'm actually leaning towards the ComfortGel as a possible alternative. Does it affect the nose bridge as much as the FF Quattro? The older nasal mask I used from my father-in-law did not seem to bother my nose as much. I only had it on for a few minutes, but even a few minutes with the Quattro leav...

When I was a kid, I had night terrors that were caused by hypoglycemia (basically, my body overreacts to sugar, and if I had a bunch of sugar right prior to bed, my blood sugar would drop and I would have a nightmare and just wouldn't wake up.) I remember that during that time I would sort-of know w...

I use both the Quattro and the Comfort Gel. The Quattro is definitely "harder" on my nose, although I don't have nearly the problems as others. The comfortGel works fine as far as sealing and just overall comfort. My problem with that (and any nasal mask) is mouth leaking/breathing, which when you d...

Ok, I did the teflon tape fix to my Quattro FF last night. My leak rate dropped by ~5, and my 90% pressure dropped by about .8cm (from 11.1 to 10.3). So... it seems that leak rate DOES impact the pressure settings, and effectively, the mask you use seems to effect the pressure you need to run at. Af...

Re: Question about FF vs Nasal Mask Pressures

Without actually looking at your reports, it's a little more difficult...... Have you done the "Teflon tape trick" to the elbow on your Quattro mask? My leak rate at a constant pressure of 12 on that mask (without taping) was about 39. WITH the Teflon tape, it's about 31. I'm THINKING the machine i...

By the way, DutchBrown......Did you have Stephen McNally's character in mind when you picked your forum name? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043137/ That move was on TV this last weekend. Den LOL no, that's been my moniker on online forums since... well, since there WERE online forums back in BBS day...

I soaked mine in a diluted vinegar and water mix (no stronger than 1:4, I used ~1:8-10) for an hour. This removed any smell at all after I washed off the vinegar mix.

Question about FF vs Nasal Mask Pressures

Ok, I'm a relatively new CPAP user... been struggling to find the right mask, loved the comfort gel except for mouth leakage (esp when nasally congested), so got the Quattro FF mask.... Now, my data has changed from mask to mask, but the only one that doesn't necessarily make sense is the pressure c...

I use the comfort gel (also couldn't tolerate nasal pillows) and I really like it. Granted, only a 3+ week user, but the mask itself is very comfortable. I have a small and I do NOT have a small nose, it fits snug but good. My only problem is mouth leaking, which is related to any nasal mask. One co...
