I have PLMD and have used Sinemet (Short and Long acting) very successfully for more than 6 years. It is very inexpensive (especially the short acting) and works very well. My insurance covers it and I only have the $10 co pay for both. When I have forgotten to take it a few times, I really notice h...

I was diagnosed with PLMD in 1999. I have taken Sinemet since then. I take one short acting (25/100) and one long acting (50/200). It works well. If I find that I am not sleeping well, I will occasionaly take 1 day off. Then the next day it works great. I have never tried Mirapex. I have been very h...

Don't be nervous about an APAP or Auto CPAP. All it is a CPAP that senses what pressure you need and automatically adjusts to give it to you. The original APAP machines were horrible, but now they are really good. I think a few years from now, they will be norm. What is great about an APAP machine i...

My local DME takes in old machines when his patients/customers get new ones. He cleans them up, tests them and then gives them to patients who cannot afford one. Perhaps there are some nice DMEs in your area that might offer something like that. My local DME only does CPAP, so they are able to be ve...

I experienced the same suffocating feeling when I first got my machine. I ended up increasing the pressure from 5.0cm to 5.6cm, even though my doctor did not approve. I slept much better with the higher pressure. (I discovered that the humidifier on the RemStar Pro lowered the pressure by .3cm, acco...

Based on your comments, I bought the S8 Vantage Auto yesterday and I am very happy with it! It is very quiet right out of the box. My DME, who is really nice, said that the comment about the bearings was correct. He has sold a bunch of S8s (his best selling model) and has found that some of them are...

S8 Vantage Auto and Noise

I am looking to buy the S8 Vantage Auto APAP, and like almost everything about it. The only concern is the several posts I have read on this forum about the noise or "whine" that it makes when you breathe. I read somewhere that the intake needs to be pointed away from the wall and that makes it a li...

I have no problem with guest posters either. There are many times it is very appropriate for a myriad of reasonsl. The only time it is not acceptable is if you are criticizing or calling someone out. If you are going to do that then you shouldn't hide out behind the anonymous "guest". It is only fai...

Lori, You are one of the great people on this forum. I have read many of your posts, and all of them are very informative. insightful and worth reading. (The one where your daughter modeled the mask was really instructive, and I showed that to a guy who sells CPAPs. He thought it was a great idea! I...

RemStar Auto vs ResMed S8 vs GoodKnight 420

Since I now have a new insurance company, I get to get a new machine. My first machine is only 6 months old, a RemStar Pro with humidifer. Unfortunately, no smart card data as it is not a Pro2. I want to get an APAP to see if it might help even more than a CPAP. My sleep study pressure was 6, althou...
