I would encourage you to go ahead with your experiment with one caveat. Remember that the mind is very powerful and is responsible for things such as the placebo effect. Since you are so concerned about a bad outcome from discontinuing the cpap, you may well imagine that you are having a bad outcome...

No I have no software to check current results. From my first week of use I did have some interesting results, though. During one 3 minute period when I was at a pressure of 8, the software showed that I had 20 apneas and 40 hypopneas. This was with my original machine. Also, I checked my titrated p...

I have had a similar problem with the Respironics Auto with Cflex. Every 2nd or 3rd night it would awaken me with a high pressure (max of 13 so far) and then would just stay at that high pressure even though I was wide awake. Finally after 15 minutes or so, I'd push the ramp button and the pressure ...

I have also kept a log for 2 months and have noticed no difference whether I am on cpap or not or whether I am on it for 8 hours or 2. At least before cpap I had some pretty good days. Now I am tired every day. My apnea is mild and i would urge anyone with mild apnea to think twice about starting th...

I think the sad truth is that cpap doesn't work for most people. There is an advertized compliance rate of 50%, meaning that the patient uses the machine for at least 4 hours per night on at least 5 out of 7 nights. If the compliance rate were set at 7 or 8 hours per night 7 out of 7 nights of the w...

You didn't say how bad your apnea is. If it is mild to moderate you might do better with a dental device. Check out the article at the top of this page under "sleep apnea news." http://rockymountainnews.com/drmn/state ... 11,00.html

false readings
The software is not foolproof. My printout from Apria Healthcare (using Respironics software) from the first week I had my cpap showed 40 apneas during one 3 minute period!

How long to feel better?
Answer: from 1 night to forever. It just doesn't seem to help some (perhaps most) people. I think that this site is biased towards people who have been helped or still hope that it will help. The ones who tried and found it didn't work don't use this site any more. Another consideration is that what...

gotten off track--apneas on exhale was the original topic
I didn't pay any attention to this post when it first appeared but I just realized after trying to nap with my Remstart autocpap that my throat closes off on the exhale when I lie on my back. The machine fails to open my throat. I have had no success with cpap, in fact I am worse with it. I still fo...

Feeling worse with cpap
Let's see if you have an AHI of 25 and let's say an average episode duration of 20 seconds, then you have about 8 minutes of poor sleep per hour. With the cpap you may have a lot more, maybe even most of every hour. This would be why you feel better without cpap. IF you can get used to cpap you MAY ...

At how low an API does cpap do more harm than good?
After not using my cpap for about 10 days and noticing that I felt slightly better overall, I used it last night and had it on for 8 full hours for the first time. (I've used it for about 6 weeks with 4 or 5 hours of use each night.) Today I felt worse than ever, probably because I got so little sle...

Just to inject a note of realism. Cpap has a 50 % compliance rate, meaning half the people just give up on the damn thing. A goodly number of the 50% remaining stuggle with it night after night so you are not alone. Try to have a positive attitude and keep trying for a while longer. I suspect that t...

I had 2.5 apneas/hr. There were also some hypopneas. I had a momentary dip to 88% during one apnea. Otherwise none below 90%. He came up with an AHI of 14. I have low BP (117/75). I don't know why he said my condition wouldn't kill me. He just offered that when I called him to get the particulars of...

If your apnea is mild, like mine, you may do better without the machine provided you do something to reduce your apneas. The pillow may be just enough for you. I used the machine for 6 weeks with an occasional night off and I kept a log of how I felt the next day. During the nights that I used the m...
