unplugging
I don't unplug, but I switch off my powerstrip; I have a cat that has learned to turn on the machine so she can sleep on a nice warm surface on top of the unit. LOL.

C-flex not for me either
I tried c-flex for quite awhile; found I was not exhaling fully before the push-back. Didn't see the increase in gas, just not as good sleep. It felt ok when I was awake and trying to fall asleep, the pressure relief made that easier. But then I would wake up breathing rapidly and feeling like I was...

Lots of friends here
Hi and welcome. You will find lots of friends here, some apparently with feathers! (A Military macaw and African gray share my space.) Re APAP; I got one, but use it on the auto function primarily to double check when I am not sleeping as well or after weight change. But I think its worth having par...

Insurance
Insurance for apnea and equipment varies widely. I have what is overall a good (and expensive) PPO insurance plan; but LIFETIME coverage for apnea is 2K, no matter what co-morbid conditions one has that may be exacerbated by apnea. As anyone whohas puchased cpap equipment this would not go far; and ...

I want one!
I really hope that this will be sold through cpap.com. I dont "do" DMEs; having dealt with one very non-responsive one I went solo and now really like the independence of tracking my own "compliance," and having access to my own manual. As a too frequent flyer I would love to have this available for...

oximeters
Note that oxygen saturation levels via pulse oximetry are fairly reliable for most folks, but can be misleading for some with particular medical conditions (I believe anemia is one, it is possible that compromised peripheral circulation is another). In those cases you really need an arterial blood g...

Lucky
I got lucky when my doctor gave me the CPAP prescription and the name of a local DME. They were so bad about not calling me back that I went hunting online and found CPAP.com.

Bravo!
I would go for the interface throw myself. Quite sure I've made it to the full length of the hose numerous times. The other competitions: the sleep deadhead: can you take your mask off while still asleep? the skeleton award: the downhill slide off the bed as you try to get the heat back on the humid...

Cats and CPAP
I am another eight-cat person; was up to nine on the theory that every life should have nine cats. Only two CPAP problems so far: 2 little claw punctures in a hose (which are now sealed by duct tape), and one of my cats has learned to turn the cpap on so she can enjoy the warmth of the machine. So n...

Tilting the pillows?
I've gotten to like the Swift; although I had a rough initial month with nose blisters and irritation to start. I find that if I get the straps tightened right (and yes, I agree the lower one should be done 1st), then aim the pillows straight into my nose, and then tilt them a bit up (inner ends up,...

Thanks for your interest!
Sleep disorders are likely to be one of the most important and until recently most neglected areas in medicine, so it is great that you are researching this. Living with the treatment for sleep apnea is easier than living with the consequences of apnea; I think I experienced most of these consequenc...

Got mine at cpap.com
My insurance has a "lifetime" maximum of $2,000 for anything apnea-related; obviously not much if I went to a DME. (That 2k includes the cost of the sleep studies also.) So I figured I would buy my first machine out of pocket, get reimbursed from my FSA acount and save the insurance funds for anothe...

Don't forget "The Man in the Iron Mask"
in your history! which by the way was very enjoyable, particularly the Torquemada mask-designers. Of course there is always the Chinese water torture of 'rain-out' to whet (or wet) our appetites.

BP, water retention and thiazides
Hi Lori: A few things you should watch out for: All diuretics except the potassium sparing ones (like spiranolactone) will cause potassium loss. You should get your potassium levels checked (especially if you get any leg cramping or arrythmia) and see if you need supplemental potassium. Unfortunatel...

customized masks?
I was wondering if any cpap company had expirimented making a customized mask. For example, we can get customized insoles by submitting a mould of our foot, and customized teeth whitening or anti-grinding mouth guards with a mould of our mouth and jaw. Why not make a mould of our face, then use this...
