Re: Lost Weight But Can't Chuck the BiPAP

BTW does anyone know any links off-hand about where to read up on "what came first" discussion mentioned?

Re: Lost Weight But Can't Chuck the BiPAP

Thanx! The technician at the sleep center told me that losing weight would help me get rid of it. Although, the truth is, my doctor did tell me that there are many skinny people who have osa. It depends on the build of their throat, etc. Oh well. I can, sadly, think of worse than using a bipap machi...

Lost Weight But Can't Chuck the BiPAP

Hi All. I've been using a BiPAP machine 24/18 for 4 years now. Feel great. About 8 months ago ago I underwent LAP-Band surgery. Very successful. Went down 90 lbs from 285 to 195. However, if I try to to sleep without my machine, I still have apneas, and am tired during the day, just as before I bega...

Drastic change?

Since i started therapy three years ago ivw been on bipap. Started with 18/16 then to 24/18 which ive been on for the last year and a half. Just went for a new sleep study. The results show that i now need regular good ole cpap rather than bipap at 14. Does this make sense?

Funny thing is though, on ResMed's website, the illustration seems to make it look like it's a f/f mask., yet they classify it as a nasal mask. What is it really?

Ultra Mirage vs Activa

Hi All!
I currently use the Ultra Mirage. Nice mask, but I feel I can't eliminate the leaks without tightening too hard.
Does anyone know about the ResMed Activa? Would this one be any better?
I use a very high pressure -- BiPap 20 over 16.
Your feedback, as always, is appreciated.

Uh oh! It's a large.
Guess it's too tight? Suppose I should loosen it a wee bit and let the air form a seal as you suggested. . .

I forgot to mention:
right now, somewhere during the night I feel tension on the sides, and always have a mark across the bridge of my nose that does disappear after about half-an-hour. Does this mean it's too tight? Or is this just life. . . .?

Wulfman, can I assume that I can loosen it a bit on bottom and rely on the air pressure or something to create a seal? Or am I totally off base?

Jeff, thanks for the tip. Didn't know I had to do that every day.

Can someone offer sage advice to a newbie?

Hi! I'm in my first week of therapy. The first 2-3 nights were great! During the day I felt like I got a while new life! The past 2 nights, however, my mask began to slip, and leak. I find myself awakening to adjust, and feel drowsy all over again during the day. I have a BiPAP Plus with humidifier,...
