Turbinate Reduction Surgery
After almost a full year on BiPAP, my AHI was still fluctuating in the 8-12 range (original sleep study established AHI = 75). The sleep lab suggested I see an ENT who is co-located in the same teaching hospital. He suggested that turbinate reduction surgery might be helpful. What are the pros and c...

Your Bi-level
You are going to love your bi-level CPAP machine when you get used to it! After suffering for several months on APAP at very high pressure, my Sleep Lab prescribed a top of the line Respironics BiPAP. I simply could not exhale sufficiently agains 18-20 cm of pressure. This affected the gas exchange ...

Nick, My doctor recently switched me from an M Series Auto with A-Flex to an M Series BiPAP Auto with C-Flex. You will really like the BiPAP as it is MUCH more comfortable. My initial setting with the BiPAP is 17 IPAP (inhalation) and 10 EPAP (exhalation). The BiPAP drops the pressure to 10 virtuall...

Changing BiPAP Pressure?
How do I change the pressure setting on M Series Auto BiPAP?
Currently in bi level mode (ie non auto) with pressure set for IPAP = 17 and EPAP = 10.
I want to change to to auto mode and have IPAP range of 14-18 and keep EPAP at 10.
Is this possible?

Jerry, I have been on APAP at 18 cm with a nasal mask and leaks were within the acceptable range. Recently i switched to BiPAP and I'm still using the nasal mask. I actuallly had more leaks with the full face mask at 14 cm during titration testing. I asked about a FF mask and my respiratory therapis...

BiPAP made a big difference for me. I used a Auto M with A-Flex for five weeks with max pressure of 18. I switched to an Auto Bi-PAP with C-Flex a couple weeks ago set for fixed pressures (non-auto mode) of 10 cm exhalation and 17 cm inhalation and it is much more comfortable than the APAP. Much les...

Fixed BiPAP Pressure Settings
After five weeks on APAP at 10-18 cm, my MD has decided to change me to a BiPAP machine set at fixed pressure setting (ie, no auto function). He feels the APAP has been keeping me at lower pressures for too many mintues per night for effective therapy. The APAP in auto mode was also causing hyperven...

Inverters
Thanks, Bearded One. Actually I do have the M Series heated humidifier, so I would need an inverter. It might be simpler to leave the humidfier at home when we spend a weekend on the boat??? On the other hand, it might be useful to have an inverter so I can use the humidifier and my laptop to see th...

Any Boaters Out There??
Any boaters out there who use CPAP with DC power?
We have a small trawler (no generator) and often spend the night at anchor with only 12V DC power.
Is the Respironics DC power cord safe and sufficient for CPAP?
Or, is a pure sine wave inverter recommended?

What is an acceptable AHI for CPAP patients?
The sleep lab guy said that AHI of 10-12 might be as good as it will get for me. What strategies should I consider to get my AHI down to 5 or below? I have been on APAP at 9-17 cm for one month for auto titration purposes. The first two weeks of data indicate that even with CPAP therapy and 90% pres...

Bill and Steveoreno, My situation is very similar to Steveoreno's. Titrated to 14 cm; started on APAP at 9-17 cm; at 17 cm still had AHI = 15+; recently increased to 10-18 cm. I wake up every night between 1:00 am and 4:00 am with the machine blasting away at max 18 cm. I can't tell whether I am wak...
