Zero AHI the goal?
Obviously sleep and rest are the overall goal of all of our struggles. But, does anyone really notice a major difference between 0 AHI and say mild apnea (~5)? I know that limiting event/hour is important, but will one feel much better from eliminating all apneas, or it is all just purely subjective?

Neurontin for PLMD: Thoughts?
After struggling to find the reason for my still present fatigue, my Dr. is wanting me to try neurontin for mild PLMD. From my PSG last October, I had ~25 movements/hr, but none that lead to major arrousals. My Dr. spoke with me about how the electrodes placed on your scalp can only measure electric...

Tired, Tired, Tired... Does life ever get better?
Guys, I've been gone for so long! I hope everyone is doing good! Now, to the reason for my "visit". I just started my 1st real job, and it's killing me. It's been close to a year since my major surgery (Tonsils, modified-UP3, GA), and the transition from 55 apnea/hr to ~3 apnea/hr. I am still tired ...

I had a similar surgery combined with GA back in July, and boy was the pain rediculous. The only major advice I can give you is to drink PLENTY of water. I'm talking the amount that you're literally peeing every 10 mins! Hydration keeps the tissue moist and speeds up the recovery. I believe I was dr...

Re: A basic apnea question.
So is it true that with apnea you feel lousy every day? That's not what I've read on this forum. Sometimes I feel great for a month. And then whammo, I'm ill as a dying dog. I believe it comes down to how high you AHI is, but also remember some people can handle more fatigue then others. The body i...

Xyrem!! That's the med I was trying to figure out. I've heard that stuff is effective in increasing REM, but it's a highly controlled substance as it's a serious narcotic and quite a powerful drug. My personal opinion on Melatonin is that's not really effective. I believe alot of people read stuff a...

Meds to Increase REM?
Upon recieving my last sleep study, I found out that I have low amounts of REM. The normal person's sleep includes 20-25% of sleep consisting of REM, whereas my sleep is about 5%. Even though after surgery my AHI went from 52 to 3/hr, I still feel really fatigued becuase my sleep isn't "good" sleep....

Phase 1 Surgery Followup PSG (It's good news!)
History: Initial sleep Study in April 2005, therapeutic study in May 2005. OSA severe w/ AHI of 52/hr. Prescribed APAP and heated humidifier. Tried APAP but never could fall asleep with it. Septoplasty & turbinate reduction November 2005. Dental device (Somnomed MAS) tried in early 2006, but quit du...

I would in all honesty get a sleep study and get it scored correctly. My Dr. wouldn't score my latest study without the proper amount of sleep time. A "home test" might sound like a good option, but I would steer clear. A professionally diagnosed sleep study can diagnose other problems a home-test c...

I had my GA performed as part of my surgery on July 10th. I did notice pretty quickly that I was having less groginess/headaches in the morning, so I believe right away my oxygen levels were better. My post-op sleep study was Oct 8th, and I should get the results today. I'm a little leary, as I'm no...

Swordz I thought you were having the GGA or Genioglossus Tongue Advancement instead of the UPPP? Are you going to consider the GGA before the MMA or have they advised against that one? My understanding is Stanford is the only one doing it. I did have GA, along with the other procedures. I actually ...

How long has it been?!
So, here I sit in my third sleep study in the last 2 years. I've come a long way from not knowing anything about OSA, to knowing exactly what happens at night and what I suffer from. I have to get braces to correct my overbite, and that correction will take about a year. After that, I will have MMA ...

I would definitely do whatever you've got to for life to be normal. Surgery is tough, but if it makes life better than its more than worth it. For those that spit %'s and so forth at you, search for the facts yourself. UPPP (UP3) is successful is the patient is screened correctly and the uvula is a ...

Can't tell of any improvement in sleep yet, as I'm definitely still being made groggy/fatigued by meds. The constant sore throat and hourly bathroom visits has made for an interrupted sleep schedule. My Dr. has performed 200 Phase I's inthe last year, so I've told he's a really good surgeon. He said...
