traveling with CPAP

My wife and I are getting ready to take a cruise for our 25th anniversary. Any advice for traveling with CPAP? Is it treated as a "carry on" by the airline? Are there any special considerations for on the cruise ship? I appreciate any advice from you veteran CPAPers who travel.

I have used the hybrid for about a month now. The first week it took some time to get things fitted just right. Then learning to get it positioned properly took a bit of trial and error. I cut the connector piece on the pillows so that I could adjust each pillow individually. It made it much easier ...

Kajun This therapy really works! But we ain't docs to be prescribing and filling prescriptions, at least most of us here ain't. That's the point I was getting at when I started this thread and it brings me back to my original question, Since they are medical equipment that require an Rx, can we lega...

Like so many of us going into this for the first time, he followed the DME recommendations and purchased the new equipment. It cost him $200 total. A quick check of cpap.com show he could have gotten his mask, humidifier, tubbing and filter for around $300. At his 20% copay, the DME would have had t...

Highway robbery

I just picked up my new Swift last night. I chose it mostly because I wanted to try something different. I didn't use it last night because I didn't want to fight a new mask on a work night but I will definitely be using it tonight. My DME charged my insurance $477 , with my co-pay I only paid $47, ...

There are so many things that affect this therapy and just the time that you think you have finally adjusted to it something new comes to frustrate you! The discomfort and bloating from excess air is a problem that we all go through. At first, for me, it was a pretty regular occurence. But now I onl...

I would rather see the sleep docs referring patients to the site. Just think how much success rates would improve if patients walked into this therapy with good information about what to expect, how to fit a mask, the differences in the types of interfaces and the best type of machine for them. It w...

I could use a copy of those instructions myself. Why the doctors start with 4 as a low is beyond me. All 4 does is make you feel like you're suffocating! I really don't want to go back to the DME to have her change the setting. She'll make me call my doc for a Rx change, then I will have to wait for...

I find that I have stretches where I will sleep all night uninterrupted and then go through periods were I will be more fitful. If I am congested before bedtime, I find that I will wake a few times during the night. For the most part, though, I have very little trouble sleeping. I try to go to bed a...

Peg, The way the Colts played that first half, I would have thought that they were a team full of "sleep apneacs"! Glad they woke up on time to keep their record unblemished. As a life long Lion fan (yes, there are a few, call us masochists!) After a afternoon of dropped passes by our big 3 first ro...

Every day is different!

The one thing I have learned since I began this therapy in July is that "every day is different." The first two weeks were great! I took to therapy with little to no problems and was beginning to feel results almost immediately. Then I went through a few weeks were I couldn't sleep at all. I felt li...

I have been on cpap since the end of July. The first two weeks were so great; I adapted to the treatment immediately. But after about a month things took a turn. I started struggling with the mask and started to question whether to quit the therapy. What I have found is that the treatment is a lot l...

Lori, I wake up every morning and thank the Lord for such a wonderful woman. She is my best friend, constant companion, and after 23 years we still carry on like love-sick teenagers! When you have a supportive spouse, who really wants you to succeed, you're really ahead, not just in overcoming trial...

I guess most of us are misunderstood. How can we expect people who have never experience this to understand. It is a lot like depression, people who have never had it will tell you that you just need to choose to be happy. Choose not to be lazy, choose not to take a nap, choose to eat right and exer...
