Why Philips wants pressure on recall actions
I have an old BiPap (over 5 years) automatic including in the recall, but have had no recent response from them so far. First response was that it was past its service life, and they would do nothing. Latest status check produce a request to call the with Dr. name who can give pressure setting, and ...

Re: Sticky: Phillips Respironics recent recall notice discussion thread
I just called my supplier, Verus. The representative reported her manager had said they had stopped selling all BiPaps due to the recall. Not selling a recalled model is obvious, and I suspect this is just temporary while they figure out what is subject to recall. I happen to have a machine over 5 y...

Blurry vision on awakening
I notice I cannot see well on waking up. I presume it is somehow related to using a full face mask (AirTouch F20 Mask Only - Medium) under high pressure (set at 18 inches for an automatic bipap), or possibly leakage from the mask. I have signs of too much fluid in the body (leg edema) and have been ...

AveoTSD dental appliance, experiences, insurance issues?
As background I have pituitary surgery planned, Friday, the 13 of December. For this they they go through the nose, into the Sphenoild Sinus, and then through that to the pituitary gland. The ENT surgeon on this (there is also a neurosurgeon, who probably does the most sensitive work, although each ...

Re: Pituitary Tumor Surgery and CPAP
An update. I got a tentative date for the pituitary surgery, Friday, the 13th (of December). I also ordered a Oral 452 mask in the hope of convincing the surgeon to let me use this. The time lags in getting this, and getting use to it, and hopefully being able to close off the nasal cavity, were suc...

Re: Oracle 2 Oral Mask Lessons Learned in 30 months of usage
As I mentioned in a post on planned pituitary surgery (entry is made through the nose), I am concerned about my surgeons reluctance to have me use my CPAP for a long period afterwards. His concern is apparently that nasal pressure is bad and may open either the wound in the back of the nose, or the ...

Re: Pituitary Tumor Surgery and CPAP
My sleep doctor reported having lunch with a neurosurgeon who did pituitary surgery. He mentioned my issue and was told this surgeon thought 24 hours without CPAP was what he requested, and another neurosurgeon at the table (spinal surgery agreed). This suggests little is known, and I suspect my sur...

Re: Pituitary Tumor Surgery and CPAP
I talked to the ENT throat surgeon who will do part of the work. He said to expect to be without the CPAP for 7 weeks. He suggested consulting my sleep doctor on what to do, and that if I did not a consultation with one of their sleep doctors might be required. He thought adding oxygen might be part...

Re: Pituitary Tumor Surgery and CPAP
Just using a mask for the mouth probably would not work since the oral and nasal cavities are connected. Their concern seems to be higher pressures in the joint cavity than outside and hence a tendency to force material from the nasal cavity inwards causing infection. I expect to talk more with the ...

Pituitary Tumor Surgery and CPAP
I expect to be having surgery to remove a ACTH secreting pituitary macroadenoma. The approach will be through the nose to reach the tumor. Talking to the surgeon I learned they would not want me to use CPAP for about a month afterwards. The reason is a fear that a high pressure in the nose area ( wh...

Re: Being Forced to use a Reconditioned Machine
From what you know (Medicare and Cigna insurance, current Respionics Bipap auto user) is the Respironics PR System One 60 series BiPap Auto with BiFlex along with the heated tube equipment probably the best to ask the doctor to prescribe? I think this is their latest and best model, but I may have ...

Re: Being Forced to use a Reconditioned Machine
Thanks. My instinct, like yours, is if I am upgrading to try to have the best, especially when someone else is paying for most of it (Medicare). The usual situation is that more costs more, and you worry about the salesman pushing more on you than you need or would want to pay for (think buying a ne...

Re: Being Forced to use a Reconditioned Machine
What part of the machine was reconditioned? Did they put in a new blower? How many hours does the machine say it has been used? (Of course, if opened the machine to replace motor, then then could reset to zero hours). I would be VERY CAUTIOUS about accepting a reconditioned machine. You have NO WAR...

Re: Zeo Personal Sleep Coach?
As to the software being able to recognize sleep, it comes from asking my doctor (plus reading) if they had automated the process adequately yet. It appears not, with human doing much of the work. As most here know, there is software that detects apnea. the usual argument against using this for diag...
