how long does it take

I have read replies to my post about if it is worth losing sleep to use cpap. I would like to ask how long does this take, since its been over a year for me and I am still taking hours to fall asleep with it many nights. Family is worried since they see a change in my personality. I did not have sym...

apnea and brain function

It is well known that sleep depravation causes memory loss. My question is this, if someone is trying to use cpap, and loses hours of sleep a night trying to fall asleep with the cpap, is this any better than sleeping without the machine and having apnea events?

hot weather and sleep

Thanks for posting this. I have noticed some different things going on now that it is getting hotter here in the midwest. I find that I wake up a lot more, all warm and uncomfortable. I am also taking the mask off while asleep, I am not logging as many hours with it. I think I will try to adjust the...

chemo and cpap

Hi Sweetdreams, best wishes to you! I am a ten year survivor here. Chemo is hard on your body, and I was not dx with apnea so I can't really say about using cpap during my chemo. I did deal with other issues, like developing diabetes during treatment, low white counts that I had to give myself neupo...

eyes and cpap

Under my eyes looks puffy every day now. I notice the change after looking at some recent photos. I look tired all day, but find that strange since cpap is supposed to help it. I don't feel bad most days though, but never had the sleepiness most of you mention pre-treatment. I just notice the eye ch...

perspective

Life itself puts things in perspective. I used to think getting old was hard, till I was diagnosed with cancer 10 years ago. Now, its wonderful to age everyday Thanks to the original posting for the reminder on how the little things in our lives are not really worth the worry.

lots of good advise

As I read through all these posts to the original one on making it though the night, I feel a lot better myaself. I have not made it longer than 6 hours a night, and average about 4. It is getting a bit easier, but I just got a new mask and now went back a bit. Does anyone else find each mask is dif...

Glad to see others think it is an eventual posibility to make a self contained mask/unit. I sure hope that it is a reality someday

sleep studies only as good as testers

I have to say that too many people posting here jump on others when they say they feel that they were misdiagnosed. After all, the testing is only as good as the people doing the test. I slept ( they say) about an hour. I do not recall ever losing conscienceness but perhap I did since they said it. ...

green tea

Funny, I just saw this on the news last night. I try to drink it because its supposed to be good for several things and as a cancer survivor you try things that you know won't hurt but may help survival. If this is an added benefit, great!

weight loss

Goofproof is right, but do remember if you are trying something for a long time, your body will self-adjust to keep the weight on and you will have to mix things up a bit too. Last year I lost 30 pounds, yet none so far this year doing the same things so I am off to the proverbial drawing board once...

pad a cheek questioin

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows of an item like pad a cheek that would hold a mask a little further out away from a nose? I am currently using an opus nasal pillow mask, but find that it fits too snuggly against my high cheekbones and thus makes my nose sore and feel like it is plugged....

who initiated my dx

I went to a new family physician, and wanted to discuss my attempt at weight loss. This is what initially brought up have a sleep study done, and I did not have symptoms. If any symptoms of any sleep disorder were present, it is that I have a difficult time falling asleep. Unfortunately, that is wor...

another mask?

I am considering yet another mask. I have used two different nasal pillow ones, one was bad and the other has worked well for a couple months but got out of shape so quickly that it now feels like it is a nose plug instead. I have one regular nasal one, but since my nose is small and the bridge (top...
