left or right side??
I am ambidextrous and sleep on my right side. I also have serious GERD which has caused a myriad of problems. My ENT/Voice Wellness Doc has never advised either side for sleep or for endoscopy. Her technique for viewing the esophagus is also different than most...ie small camera up and down the turb...

Beards
I have a full beard, but keep it trimmed to help with the leaks. Side sleeping is the big problem. Currently use the Resmed Ultra Mirage FF...ok. Have used the Fisher 431 FF. Still looking the the "perfect" full face mask!

Ultra Mirage
I wrote the resmed people as well, because my mask was making all types of noise. They informed me they had a problem with the elbow on this model etc etc etc...My DME gave me a new one and it seems to be fine, except for the occasional air leaks.
