Re: Recommendations for ditching the full face mask
Oh wow, thank you all so much for the quick replies! For some reason, although I've ordered through cpap.com, I didn't know about the insurance if you don't like a mask. This is very good indeed! Yes, I have the same feelings about aan oral appliance... both the question of will it actually work AND...

Recommendations for ditching the full face mask
Hello, I have been using the same brand of FF mask since I started CPAP therapy around 2007. The reason I went with a FF mask is because I have sensitive nasal/sinuses and when I had a nasal mask on during my very first sleep study, the pressure felt very irritating, and my nose plugged up. I do hav...

Re: Hypothyroidism and Sleep Apnea
WOW! this is interesting. My "borderline" hypothyroidism was diagnosed after my pregnancy. That is also when I developed OSA. I am not currently taking the thyroid meds cause they made me feel too wired. But I am going to revisit this with the dr. He said there are some beta blockers they can give t...

Re: Arrgghh! APAP not working for me evidently!
I think I had a good night last night! I took advice from this board and shortened my range. Instead of 4 to 15 (my RX is for 9), I set it at 7 to 13. I won't know anything for sure until I can get the software and reader, but I feel like I've slept. Husband didn't hear any gasping either. It was a ...

Re: Arrgghh! APAP not working for me evidently!
You are awesome, Jim! THanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now if I could just find a way to stay off my back... balls don't work.. end up with severe muscle spasms, disrupted sleep due to pain-waking up to get rid of the ball. I guess in my state of unconsciousness, I am a pretty stubborn back sleeper! I cannot e...

Re: CPAP Camping
Hi there! Lots of great ideas for powering a CPAP during your awesome-sounding adventures! I just wanted to post a story of a man I used to work with. He was SUPER adventerous... traveled to Tibet, liked to do the Everest hike, etc. He began dating a nurse after several years of being single. It so...

Re: Pressure differences between back and side sleeping
Tennis balls are a joke...no way they keep me off my back. My latest trick for staying off my back is a 4 inch diameter hard ball put inside a Peas low back ice pack from CVS. That thing hurts when you lay on it...but you have to position it between the shoulder blades in the center. OUCH! Maybe a ...

Re: Pressure differences between back and side sleeping
Hi, Based on my titration study, I ended up at 19 on my side, and no amount of pressure would do it when I was on my back. They ran the machine all they way up to 29, which was like trying to breathe attached to an air compressor. -john- HOLY SMOKES!!!! Did you find a way to learn how to stay off y...

Re: Took a nap - woke up choking
I had GERD too and didn't know it. My allergist diagnosed it. I was complaining about my chronic hoarseness that I INSISTED was caused by my horrible pollen allergies. He told me that the most common cause of chronic hoarseness was GERD, and that one didn't ever have to experience heartburn to have ...

Re: Arrgghh! APAP not working for me evidently!
Thanks, Jim. I think you're correct.
Is this software and reader specific for certain machines, or does one have many choices? Can I purchase it on CPAP.com?
Thanks again,
Napagirl

Re: Pressure differences between back and side sleeping
Wow! That's a huge spread. No, I don't know mine, but I am quickly learning that I am having great trouble with back sleeping. I wish I could train myself to side sleep, but years of doing meditation lying flat on my back has made that the easiest position for me to fall asleep in. I will have to bu...

Re: Arrgghh! APAP not working for me evidently!
Thanks, everyone! I want to say that I do have a full face mask. I have always used a FFM. I am unable to tolerate the nasal mask personally. I have tried many, and just end up wasting my money. I also don't think these are centrals, because my husband hears the obstruction. It is a noisy, gasping, ...

Re: Arrgghh! APAP not working for me evidently!
Thanks for that info! The reason I had the low end set so low was for the ramp up period. APAP does not have a normal ramp setting like CPAP, so I had to set it low, or lay there with a wind tunnel until I could fall asleep. But if that works, I'll do it. I am not convinced, tho, that this will work...

Arrgghh! APAP not working for me evidently!
Lately, I've been lightly awake many times during the night. You know, that light sleep when you keep waking from apneas and can't get into deep sleep. I posted a week or so ago about my APAP, and having obstructive episodes. I did raise the pressure. My pressure RX is 9. I have the APAP set at a ra...
