I am deeply greatful to everyone who took the time to write a response in an effort to help me. It is MUCH appreciated....although some of the "tough love" types of comments were indeed very tough. I went to my regular doctor yesterday and told him my situation and my intention to stop CPAP. He seem...

I'm a few months in myself, and recently have finally found some degree of success. Initially my AHI's ranged from 7-12. I use straight CPAP and varied my pressure from 4 to 16. There was a high degree of scatter but generally, my HI went down with increasing pressure and my OI went up. I couldn't w...

I'm 43 and fairly new to CPAP. Since I was a kid, people have been telling me I don't breath when I sleep. So, I'm hoping I caught this in time. So far, morning headaches (that can last all day) have been the only ill health effect that have plagued me. Now if I could just get my AHI below 5....can'...

negative impressions of this "business"
As a fairly recent newcomer to the world of CPAP, I believe these devices can and do have a very beneficial impact on some user's lives. However, my experiences thus far have caused me to also form another opinion; the sleep clinics, sleep clinic doctors, and DME's are primarily focused on selling e...

Thank you all for your encouraging words. I remember being a little kid and having my friends tell me that I breath funny while sleeping. Finally at age 43 I'm doing something about it. You are all correct - that is what I should be focusing on instead of worrying. This is a great forum. Thanks again.

I'm recently diagnosed as having apnea and have just started trying to get used to CPAP. Other than being tired and having morning headaches, I'm otherwise a healthy 43 old man. Becoming educated about apnea has scared the heck out of me regarding the increased risk for heart problems and stroke. I ...

paint fumes
Well the timing is bad, but we are having the house painted during my second week on CPAP. We have windows open and are airing out the house as best we can but the fumes are still present. I'm concerned about using my machine during all this. Breathing pressurized fumes doesn't sound like a good pla...

I'm relatively new to all this, but my analytical brain is wondering why using the ramp would increase your AHI. 2 Thoughts: 1.) When immediately going to full pressure, you notice if your mask is leaking and correct it. Perhaps ramping hides a poor mask fit. 2.) Maybe you fall asleep very quickly a...

AHI using CPAP
Hello All, new member here. I received my machine (REMstarPro) and have used it for 6 nights now. I think its great that the unit can tell me my average AHI. However, I'm not thrilled with the numbers. After 3 nights, the average was 5.6. After five nights the average was 6.7. After six nights it ha...
