Re: Survival Techniques when you can't use CPAP
I don't know if this would be of any use, but what about a device that measures desaturations and beeps a warning when they occur? Ideally there would be someone available to help you out in case the paralysis has set in at that point. Please let us know how you do. Rooting for you. Started my nigh...

Re: Survival Techniques when you can't use CPAP
I wonder if there's any way to get a "whole head" CPAP "mask?" i.e. covers the ears as well as the mouth and nose. Or pressurized "headphones" connected to your CPAP mask. Seems like the physics would work in terms of the ear problem. I'd be a bit afraid to "roll your own." Sounds like a good way t...

Re: Survival Techniques when you can't use CPAP
I don't have personal experience with this, but a friend of mine, bought a oral device on-line to treat her sleep apnea, until she gets a cpap. I'm not sure it totally prevented apneas, but it did decrease her snoring. I thought of this as an option too. I should talk to my dentist...whatever I can...

Re: Survival Techniques when you can't use CPAP
Obviously, this is not medical advice. I ruptured an eardrum diving about a year ago. It healed fine while using CPAP at 12cm every night. I am completely unable to sleep without CPAP, but I also really like diving. It would be very hard for me to choose, but I'd probably continue CPAP if I felt I ...

Re: Survival Techniques when you can't use CPAP
Fredman, are there no neurologists in Alberta, Ca? Yes, with two large cities, one has more than 1.3 million people and Edmonton where I leave has a million people so we have quite few neurologists, ENTs and other specialists problem we have is large waiting times to see them. My Ear, Nose Throat (...

Survival Techniques when you can't use CPAP
It has been quite a long time since I last posted. My cpap therapy is working great and I love my S9! For the second time in 5 years since I started using a CPAP, I have been told to discontinue use until my ruptured eardrum can heal. The last time I suffered through. Tried to sleep in a reclining c...

Re: crud in my humidifier tank
I got an ugly, stinky deposit FROM distilled water--are some brands cleaner than others? Odd I have had my old unit and would clean the humidifier very occassionally but never got a residue or smell from the distilled water. Deposits usually are from lime or calcium in the water. When water is boil...

Re: S9 machines?
The S9 Auto like Slinky said is auto titrating (APAP mode), meaning that the unit will adjust pressures in response to obstructive apneas (airway has collapsed) and other events. The S9 can detect central apneas (airway open but no breathing occurs) and it treats it by maintaining the same pressure ...

EPR
I forgot to mention that EPR is set to "on" number 1 setting. I am not sure if that is the lowest or highest setting. I find the EPR is more responsive than the AFLEX on my REMstar. With AFLEX I could almost feel the resistance at the resistance at the very beginning of exhalation. Of course that mi...

Re: S9 machines?
Hello all, I also have a new S9 Autoset and it does whine. My sleep doc has had the same problem with other patients. She said it must be a bad batch as some of them do not make the noise. I have tried another and the whine was barely perceptible. I called Resmed and they said to have my DME sent m...

S9 Auto Review - Totally Happy!
Here is my review of my new Resmed S9 after one night. CPAP machines are like shoes or outfits. They aren't one size fits all nor is there one machine that works for everyone. The S9 is not for everyone. I realize that there are more than one type of S9, so my comments are only general. I am happy t...

Re: S9 machines?
My exhales cause a bit of whine, too. I'm generally too tired to let it affect me. Although... my "whine" sounds like it's coming from the S9 body. I will find out on Monday night when I will have mine! My old Remstar Auto whines with inhalation and exhalation. It never used to, but as it is now 5 ...
