Re: OT:Good Calories, Bad Calories....
I spent a few years being homeless or squatting. Church meals, Food Pantries, Salvation Army meals and Food Share programs was what I and many other people depended on. A lot of people think when you become homeless that your alone or isolated but food needs bring people together like nothing else w...

Re: Using a family member's apap
Never said he was going to blow out a lung. Also we don't know if that machine reported is an Apap or in Apap mode or even what ranges its set too. Many times people confuse what they actually have, without seeing what gear they actually have, it could be anything set to who knows what. Pretty much ...

Re: Very happy with APAP
Pretty much, A rough rule of thumb is 2 above and 2 below. IE if your target pressure is 13cmH20 then something like 11cmH20 - 15cmH20 but like all things it's fairly an individual thing that need confirmation by good numbers and how you feel. Also take into account any breath relief settings you ma...

Re: Very happy with APAP
Grats on your success ! Lowing the ceiling might not be a bad idea but if its working for you great ! If you do decide to lower it just do it 1cm H20 at a time and try it for a week or 2 and see how it goes. The pressures decreasing are most likely do to you settling in with treatment and good leak ...

Re: OT:Good Calories, Bad Calories....
Well, I am about half way through Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis. So far its been a very interesting book, even though the first part is pretty much a history lesson in the evolution of Wheat and how we have played around with it, was a good bit of slow reading. So far the most interesting thing h...

Re: CPAP HELP!!
Welcome to the Forum! Sorry you cant sleep The pressure of 6 is pretty low as 4 is the bottom of the unit. EPR also lowers the pressure for you when you exhale making it easier for you to breath out. He is a link to explain EPR from Resmed. http://www.resmed.com/us/assets/html/device_epr/epr.html?nc...

Re: Using a family member's apap
An initial range of 4-20 will probably not be optimum (I would even set it at 6-20 as 4 is very low and he could feel as if he is not getting enough air... bad feeling and not conducive to continuing the treatment!) and will have to be adjusted according to the results of the first few nights. The ...

Even though I have talked about Atkins a lot, I also never did any of the artificial sweeteners. Aspartame just messes with me and always has, first time I had a can of "diet" Soda with it I ended up spending a lot of time in the bathroom. Having allergies as kid taught me fast when something messes...

Re: Using a family member's apap
As a do it yourself er I am not as afraid of going it alone as greatunclebill but and I MEAN a BIG BUT, you have to know more about what your doing first. Does he know how to clean the gear? Does he know if the pap machine is a straight pressure unit like a Cpap or an Apap? Does he know how to set t...

What did you expect? White Coats protect White Coats. You were trying to get them to pay attention to a patients comfort and expecting them to use up to date equipment. You also questioned their methodology. So therefore your not of the established White Coat camp and booted you. I kinda wish we cou...

Re: OT:Good Calories, Bad Calories....
I think Atkins was well aware of the possible dangers of severe restriction of carbs, and I think, in my opinion, that he acted very responsibly in pointing them out, according to his understanding. But I also believe that the adoption of any unproven approach long-term can have unintended conseque...
