Apnea vs. Hypopnea: two nights compared
In order to try to reduce my fairly high hypopnea index (4.4 per hour: apneas 0.7 per hour on Oct 27th) I raised my APAP to 10 cm last night and, yes, the hypopnea index went down to 0.6 per hour BUT my apneas went up to 2.8 per hour. The two reports are at: http://richardleveson.com/gridpipethynne/...

GumbyCT PostPosted: Tue Aug 05, 2008 8:22 am Post subject: May I ask how you were able to match the two charts up? I downloaded the data to Excel, then I graphed it there - you can compress or stretch the excel graph on the page. Then I cut and pasted the Encore JPEG to excel and scaled the graph t...

SpO2 data graphic on Encore chart
I managed to put up a night's SpO2 data to fit with my Encore report. There is not a lot of correlation between events on the SpO2 and apnea/hypopnea events - but I think it's still interesting and I would appreciate some comments from the experts here: http://richardleveson.com/images/CPAPSPO2graph...

Rip said: Moreover, through readings of forum postings by many users of this device, I note that the issue is universal. It appears that ALL of M Series CPAP machines have this issue. Assuming you must be aware of this, I would like to know status of the problem, what is being done to address the is...

Well this is what I have found out. cpap.com is not on the gov't list so you will not be refunded for anything purchased from them. You need 2 sleep tests that are registered with the gov't program and on your 2nd sleep test you will get a form that is required to get reimburst. They will cover $78...

Last night CPAP at 9.0 - geesh, the house must have shaken during the first hour! (big snore) AHI = 3.0 (OA=1.4, H=1.3) BUT the last two 'apneas' happened while I was awake.
Jeff, it's certainly looking more and more as you say.

Thanks Jeff and Den for your added comments. Jeff, very interesting that you believe a high upper pressure can actually trigger 'centrals' - I will be patient as you suggest and shall do the next seven nights without changing anything. If the data for these continue to be as good as they are, it wil...

First of all, I am very grateful to Wulf, Rested and Rooster for taking the trouble to look at my data and respond. Thank you, folks! Wulf, I tend to move a lot in my bed and change sides or to sleep on my back - I truly don't know if there is any pattern to this to correspond with those apnea clust...

Got the data from 29th Jan and posted at http://www.richardleveson.com/encore I set the machine to APAP and the range at 8.0 - 14.0 mouth taped. Not as good as previous night with most apneas clustered in the first hour (14) and the final hour (5) I woke from this short night feeling pretty exhauste...

Thanks. Last night my Encore reported a "subscript out of range error" and all the data for the night was lost. Shall hope this is just the result of an occasional quirk - I notice that there may be an issue with the card interfaces, possibly grease on the contacts, as reading problems are quite fre...

JeffH I did what you suggested and set my machine to 8.0 and CPAP with mouth taped. I posted the result -

Very interesting! Only one apnea for the whole night but lots of hypopneas.
Rested, thanks for the suggestion - I may try that tonight

Encore data from first night with mouth taped
I taped my mouth for the first time last night - I had been seeing high leakage flows on my Encore reports and had been waking up with a really dry mouth. Certainly I seem to have stopped the mouth-leakage, judging by the Encore results, but I still found myself 'off-color' in the morning. I'd be mo...

I got one used from ebay for $300 - I always check the full Detailed Seller Rating (stars) and the shipping cost before buying there and it has worked out well. People dislike leaving negative feedback because of the "you-ding-me-I-ding-you" mentality there. The one I got can print on thermal paper,...

How does my machine detect an apnea?
I am mystified as to how my APAP actually senses an apnea. On the Encore report I see, usually, a single little stripe when an apnea has happened - occasionally they are doubled up (thicker). If I hold my breath I can't seem to provoke an artificial apnea. What are the criteria for an apnea in these...
