Re: System One Humidifier Problems?

Sorry for the delay. I have been too busy to check back. The main complaint that I am getting, and again it is only from a few patients, is that they are waking up between 3 and 4:00am due to severe dry mouth. These are folks who are on a full face mask already. The mask fits well and the leak rates...

Re: Tips for Quattro leaks?

The biggest thing that I have found with the Quattro is you have to be religious about keeping the cushion clean. I wear it my self and I tell all of my patients the same thing. Keep the cushion clean and as free of skin oils as possible. I wash my mask cushion every night before going to bed. I use...

That is a lot of air!! Our max pressure in my lab is 24/20 and it is very rare that some one needs that much air. It is no wonder your are having so much trouble. I would say to call your Doc back and tell him that you are unable to tolerate the flow and see what he/she says. I would also suggest ge...

Rosemary, The thing to keep in mind is the EEG that we use for a sleep study is not the same as an EEG that you would have for say, a seizure disorder. We do not use any where close to the same number of electodes. We use EEG only to identify sleep and wake, and then the sleep stages, i.e stages 1-5...

Cortical Arrousals are the arrousals that occur in the Cerebral Cortex. We monitor four different channels of brain activity with the main ones being the right and left Cortex, or C3 for the left and C4 for the right. These are the baseline channels for identifying arrousals. To put it into context ...

The other thing to keep in mind is that you have only been on the Cpap for a very short time. The biggest thing I would tell you is to give it at least a month. You are still adjusting to every thing. None the less, you are doing really well!

I have to say that I agree with Liam. While there are those who have other physiological reasons to get up and void, I find that if I can stop the arrousals, then I can stop to multiple trips to the restroom, most of the time. Back in my younger days I worked as a Paramedic doing 24 hour shifts. Whe...

Fitting a mask is a totally individual thing. Not every mask will fit every person. When doing a first time fitting for titration my go to mask are the Activa and the Swift. I fit every patient with both to give them an idea of the different options. The Opti-life is my second choice for a nasal pil...

Again I totally agree with Snoredog. I generally try to keep the PS setting at around 4cm difference between Ipap and Epap. If I am treating Central events or even CSR I will increase the PS setting. The most I have had to go was a 7cm difference, but 6cm is usually good. In our lab, the max pressur...

Most folks who are mouth breathers do not have that problem while on Cpap. Most of the time the air blasting out of your mouth is so irritating, that you will just close your mouth. It is very common to have a slight lip leak while in REM, but most of the time it is not an issue. Full Face mask can ...

Yeah, what Snoredog said! The machine we use to titrate in our lab has the ability to do every thing from Cpap to Bipap to straight timed Bipap. We have the ability to change the pressure and mode from the tech room. Only way to do it with out having to go in and out of the room all night long. I am...

Hey Sammy, It seems strange to me that if your tech doing the titration started to see Central events and stoped going up on the pressure, then why did your Doc then order an increased pressure above where the Tech stopped. Were you still having obstructive events? Do you know what pressure the Tech...

My guesss would be that you have your max pressure set too high. 20cm is a lot of air. There are not many who can tolerate or even need that much air.

Is there a way for your machine to tell you at what pressure these central events are happening?

As you get older you will have less Slow Wave Sleep, stages 3&4.

The Legs thing can also be caused by UARS. In my lab we titrate for legs to see if we can make them go away. Some times it works, and some times it does not. You never know until you try.

Here is my .02. I have a deviated Septum and am unable to tolerate a Nasal Pillow type mask due to pain. But my expirence while fitting patients with the various types goes like this... The Breeze can be a very good product if you can get it to fit just right. Since they changed the design it can be...
