Do not assume that your CPAP bag will not be counted as a carry-on. Sometimes it is counted and sometimes it is not. I recently went to Japan on a business trip and did not feel like carrying on my CPAP machine. I just made sure I packed it in my checked luggage amongst my clothes really well. It made it to Japan and back with no issues.
