When you change from 1.0 to 0.5 increments, the only difference is that you can set the machine to half-centimeter increments. There is no difference in the way (or the amount in this case) that the machine responds, unfortunately--I've tried.

If you tape your mouth, make sure you have a backup power supply or some kind of alarm that will wake you up. I don't mean to be an alarmist, but I'm sure you wouldn't want to suffocate in a power outage. . .
