I got mine for a total of $1300 (including dentist services, which includes various follow-ups). I was unsuccesful in my insurance request but probably could have been successful with a partial had I been more careful to get the right referrals. Yes, it's expensive but worth it for me.

I can't give you a good scientific answer to how one would know whether TAP may work for you, except that my dentist (dr Mintz, Rockville Md, who I would recommend) was optimistic from the start reviewing my case. One condition is that you need to have a relatively healthy set of teeth. My OSA was m...

It's necessary, but really takes only about 30 seconds or so and is not a big deal. Again, I know this will not work for everyone but people who have difficulties with CPAP should certainly try. Really, the discomfort from the device is minimal after a few weeks.

Success with dental appliance after CPAP failed!

I was never able to sleep using CPAP. After a few months of failed efforts, my doctor referred me to a dentist for an adjustable dental appliance (TAP). It took me a little while to get used to, but it works! I just did an overnight sleep study and my apnea has disappeared! The dental appliance is r...

I use APAP 6-12 range. I don't have C-flex or EPR, unfortunately. Mostly my stats indicate aroun 8 as 95% pressure range. I tried starting at 8 but notice that I fall asleep much more easily at 6.

frequent awakenings

I have been trying APAP for about 6 weeks now. I am now able to fall asleep with the mask and my leakage and AHI stats look excellent when I sleep. Problem is that I wake up within 2 hours every night and then have trouble falling back asleep with the mask. My frequent awakenings were the reason why...

Apap will register hypopneas as most any slight change in your breathing pattern. These machines are not THAT smart (they don't know if you are asleep or not). You could increase the settling time on your machine (time before the APAP will start looking for breathing interruptions).

AHI= 36, but only 5 A and I think the Hs are to some extent bogus in that even when I do not sleep the Resmed records small deviations in my breathing as an H. I think my main problem is that I have not been able to sleep long enough for the APAP to get to the level where it treats my apnea. The pro...

Should mouth leaks show up in leakage data?

I am using Resmed autospirit in APAP mode. My leakage data is low (.06 L/s) but my AHI remains high (36. then again, I barely sleep with the mask on and the Resmed records HIs even when I am awake if I breathe irregularly, also 5 apneas though). Could mouth breathing be the problem or should it show...

Thanks this has all been very helpful. One question: should mouth breathing show up in the leakage data? My leakage seems reasonably small (.1 L/S), (flow is 35 L/m at 11cm). Another issue may be that I just don't sleep long enough for the APAP to get at the right pressure. I have only been able to ...

Setting the higher pressure (7-14) made breathing a lot easier. I still had trouble falling asleep and kept waking up shortly after I dozed off. While that may be a matter of getting used to sleeping with the mask on, more disconcerting is that my apnea seems not to be treated: AHI was 26.5 accordin...

"I am just really curious. Your sleep test failed, yet you were given a machine. Not the usual, but in your case lucky. Maybe your doc did it because of the long 2 month wait?? " I did a diagnostic study that went well (25 p.h. obstructive apneas). I had to wait two months for a titration study afte...

Thanks. My first titration study failed as I got virtually no sleep, partially due to a REALLY bad sleep lab experience (they didn't even have a pillow!). Rescheduling takes at least 2 months here (I am at GW hospital in DC) and I don't want to wait for that. Perhaps I'll try to get the machine set ...

Thanks. I did not realize that the low pressure could contribute to my breathing problems. I am really worried that the mask keeps me awake AND that the machine doesn't really help when I am asleep given the low pressure. I was diagnosed with moderate apnea (25 episodes per hour) and am really motiv...
