Re: anyone use light blocking eye masks?

I use an ordinary light-blocking mask that I already had, and just have it do what it can. Lots of light gets through, but it's better than nothing.

Re: What makes a machine say CA (central apnea / clear airway)?

Thank you. That's what I thought -- as far as it goes. But what kind of flow response is it looking for, and what can cause that? As I said, i tried holding my breath while keeping my airway open, with all the variations I could think of, and none of them got flagged as a "central apnea" by the mach...

What makes a machine say CA (central apnea / clear airway)?

When I was getting acquainted with my machine (it's an ibreeze, in case the auto text isn't working), trying it out while awake, I wanted to understand what it was responding to. I could generate as many "obstructive apnea" flags as I wanted, just by pausing for fourteen seconds between breaths. Usu...

Re: Machine is happy. Oximeter isn't.

Yeah, that was tricky... Thank you. So it looks as though what I need to do is view the image on the image-hosting website, right-click to get "copy image link", and use that in the BBCode instead of the URL that the hosting site gave me. Let's see if it works this time: https://i.ibb.co/rfyHmgHc/1...

Re: Machine is happy. Oximeter isn't.

You could set user flags in Oscar ... My machine isn't compatible with OSCAR (yeah, in retrospect I probably should have spent the extra money for an OSCAR-compatible machine), but most mornings I've been looking through my flow-rate graph on the software it does use. In a typical night's squiggles...

Let's see if this works ... .

Apparently not.

Maybe this one ...

Or does it work as just a link?

Well, the link works, at least. But how do I post it so it shows up as an image?

Re: Newbie-almost 2 months along, managing ok, (sorta), but CA questions.

I'll second the point that the machine has no idea whether you're awake or asleep: it's a CPAP, not an EEG. All it can do is guess, based on your breathing. Mine is a cheaper one, that doesn't even try. But I'm clueless about CA-flagged events. I can generate an "apnea" with every breath for as long...

Re: OSCAR data review

What stops you from using it longer? Can you zoom in on the flow rate graph? I have a machine that's incompatible with OSCAR, so all my graphs look different. But it seems to me as though that might be too much leakage. Wearing the mask while you're awake should help you notice whether there's too m...

Machine is happy. Oximeter isn't.

My pulse oximeter says I'm having desaturations about 20 times per hour. My CPAP machine thinks my AHI is usually below five. On the flow rate graph (not OSCAR, because the machine is an ibreeze, which isn't compatible with OSCAR), there are lots of fluctuations in my breathing. The oximeter also sa...

Do different names for EPR mean anything?

As far as I can tell, every manufacturer uses a different name for their expiratory pressure relief feature, and every manufacturer has a slightly different algorithm for exactly how the pressure is adjusted. But do the names actually mean anything? For example, if a new machine entered the market, ...

Re: Reliable arousal detection and logging?

I'm new to this, and haven't tried anything yet. I'm contemplating buying a Muse headband, because theoretically it ought to work. It looks as though either the S or the S Athena would do, but again, I don't actually know. I also don't know whether it will be practical to wear with the headgear for ...

Positional devices

My apologies if this is something I should have found easily, but the search terms I thought of didn't get me anything relevant. When I was diagnosed, the test noted a substantially higher AHI while I was on my back than when I was on my side. So I'm curious about things intended to help people avoi...

Re: Apparently hyperventilating in response to EPR

Thank you. I kept the mask on all night last night, and my heart rate was mostly back down in the range that's normal for me when I sleep. SpO2 bounced around some of the time, though. This morning I didn't get a very good look at last night's flow-rate squiggles before the laptop battery ran low, a...

Re: Apparently hyperventilating in response to EPR

Is the norm around here to edit initial posts with updates, or to add them as separate posts? Anyway, it seems that either I found a setting that makes it not as bad, or I made some progress in training myself not to hyperventilate. I made it four hours before waking up. Or maybe I'm still breathing...

Apparently hyperventilating in response to EPR

Well, technically it isn't EPR, if I've got the terminology correct: that's technically the name of a specific company's version, right? But I have the impression from my reading that at least a decent number of people use "EPR" for the feature in general. That makes sense to me, because "expiratory...
