Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
I appreciate you taking to the time to reply to all my questions. This thread has been very helpful for me to have a better understanding what is happening and why.

Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
Excuse my ignorance with the next question. Is it better or worse to have most of your events be arousal events? If you are actually awake how am I still not breathing? If they are arousal events do I even need the APAP machine? I feel like I am in school again. So much to learn! I have had poor sle...

Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
Thank you for that clarification and the examples. I was confused and now I see what you are talking about with the actually asleep versus not fully awake/awake.

Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
Pugsy: You spoke about learning to spot an arousal in the flow limitation chart. I do not I know how to see those spots on the chart. Can you help me to understand what that looks like? This is last night’s data: https://sleephq.com/public/25e0b5de-8a80-47f2-bc4f-88489997585c Subjective report: I re...

Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
Pugsy: Thank you for the EPR explanation. It makes sense now. I will leave it at 2 for now because I understand what you mean about only changing one thing at a time and needing more than one night of data to decide if the change was helpful. It is clear that the change of low pressure to 12 helped ...

Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
Pugsy: I forgot that you asked for a subjective report in addition to the link to the data. I remember waking up about 3-3:30am and went to the bathroom. Then around 4:30-5:30am I was in and out of sleep. I kept feeling the ear pressure and a few times I felt the mask leak on my cheek. When I got of...

Pugsy: Based on my link to last nights charts how would you change my pressure settings?

Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
Vandownbytheriver: Thank you for your thoughts. When I was on my side around 4:30-5:30am I heard the mask leaking out of the side of my mouth. Maybe the machine didn’t pick it up. I am trying to learn how to hang my face over the edge of the pillow. When you say “ Just set 11-13 EPR 1 or 12-13 EPR 2...

Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
Vandownbytheriver: Thank you for your thoughts. I don’t think the insurance will change my machine yet as I have only had it for about 5 weeks. I can’t even see the actual sleep neurologist until January 2025. The medical equipment supplier refuse to change the settings without a new prescription (I...

Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
Update: I changed the lower pressure to 10 instead of 8. I left the high pressure at 16. I used this new setting for two nights and both were almost identical. Apnea events lowered to 6. Still hoping to get below 5 events per hour and ultimate closer to zero. I tried to make an effort to sleep on my...

Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
Thank you so much for your knowledge able insight. I certainly feel better (less daytime fatigue and less headaches) than before I started using the machine but I still feel tired upon waking. I was having frequent night time urination (2-4 times a night) and that has improved greatly. I am waking u...

Re: New user trying to understand why apnea events are not <5
I am normally an active sleeper going from left to right side when I awake but according to the sleep study I end up on my back too. I really appreciate the help. I am not able to see the actual sleep medicine neurologist until late January 2025. There are no appointments at any location. My primary...
