Lunesta / Zopiclone + CPAP = No REM sleep?
Hi everyone, Long story short, I've been on ASV therapy for over 8 months. A couple of months ago, I caught Covid for the first time, and since then, the efficacy of ASV therapy has sharply declined to the point where I’ve spent many nights unable to fall asleep at all. This had never happened befor...

Re: Is this Aerophagia? It's ruining my ASV therapy
It sounds to me like it could very well be aerophagia, possibly related to your ASV machine having increased the pressures (both IPAP and EPAP) in response to a series of "events", possibly false events scored while you were trying to drift back to sleep. Rather than change the machine's Min EPAP s...

Is this Aerophagia? It's ruining my ASV therapy
I've been dealing with aerophagia pretty much since the start of my ASV therapy over 8 months ago. By aerophagia I mean excessive flatus due to air swallowing. Honestly, I didn’t mind it at all as it didn’t seem to impair the effectiveness of my ASV therapy. It was just a minor inconvenience. Howeve...

Re: Does this look like palatal prolapse?
I don't myself see a resemblance between your flow-rate traces and the traces in the articles you link to (or in additional images on line). Instead, I see periods of fairly slow and/or shallow breathing, not the shut-offs typical of palatal prolapse. I don't know how to optimize settings on an ASV...

Re: Does this look like palatal prolapse?
would you agree that a lack of flow limitation during the events + the long continuous flatten curve suggests a Central Apnea event? No. It would be a guess on my part and I don't do guesses very often but this is one of those times. Unless you know for sure that you ONLY had central sleep apnea an...

Re: Does this look like palatal prolapse?
ASV model machines do NOT use FOT to figure out if the apnea the machine senses is obstructive or central in nature. So that's why it uses the "unclassified apnea" flag name. OSCAR doesn't do the naming of anything....the machine does the naming and OSCAR just reports what the machine is reporting....

Does this look like palatal prolapse?
For a long time, I've suspected that my soft palate is the main cause of my sleep apnea. After contracting Covid for the first time and experiencing a worsening of symptoms to the point where I couldn't even fall asleep a couple of months ago, my suspicions have grown stronger. Recently, I read abou...

Re: HELP: Sudden drastic worsening of Sleep Apnea - Can't sleep at all, CPAP completely useless
It's like we have to pull all the weight to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it. With the use of CPAP, that's true. It's best to learn how to manage your own CPAP therapy. I did use a flashlight to look in the mirror but I can't see anything apparently abnormal. I suspect the problem lies in ...

Re: HELP: Sudden drastic worsening of Sleep Apnea - Can't sleep at all, CPAP completely useless
I have an appointment with an ENT on 11th November but I can't wait that long, I need a solution right now. Ask the ENT practice if they could put you on a cancellation list. If they don't keep such a list, ask them if you can call every day to check on cancellations. Even while I'm awake I can fee...

HELP: Sudden drastic worsening of Sleep Apnea - Can't sleep at all, CPAP completely useless
Hi everyone. I'm desperate for help. I haven't been able to sleep at all during the last 48 hours and I'm starting to fear the issue won't resolve any soon. I have obstructive sleep apnea and I've been on ASV therapy for 6 months with great success. Everything was going great until I caught Covid fo...

Does Covid worsen sleep apnea?
Hello everyone. 3 weeks ago I caught Covid for the first time. Suddenly, I couldn't sleep at all as I'd choke before even being able to fall asleep despite using the exact same CPAP setup that was doing wonders for me before Covid (CPAP + chinstrap + soft cervical collar) I decided to switch my nasa...

hahaha good point. Not bald but I have short hair. The key takeaway is jaw pulling has to be vertical.

Re: Tongue Retainer compatible with CPAP?
I decided to tuck my chin against the cervical collar as much as possible to keep my jaw in place. I use a cervical collar to prevent chin-tuck, and these x-strips to prevent jaw drop - https://www.amazon.com/Mouth-Tape-Sleeping-Anti-Snoring-Hypoallergic/dp/B0CKKR45X9/ref=sr_1_7 The x-strips work w...

Re: Tongue Retainer compatible with CPAP?
The Airwavv for night I use is small and I find very comfortable. After you fit it to your teeth, it literally snaps onto them and holds well. There is a shelf that your tongue naturally rest on. It doesn't seal your tongue to the roof of your mouth but lifts it up and I find that's all I need to n...

Re: Tongue Retainer compatible with CPAP?
Here is the one I use - https://www.nosebreathe.com/ Thanks for sharing. It seems that your device keeps the tongue in place by fitting it into the shelf and using "tongue suction". I am not sure this is going to be enough for me as using "tongue suction" alone has proven extremely ineffective for ...
