Re: Searching for REM sleep

The published paper on decrease in BMR wasn't to reference REM but other side effects of CPAP I listed. There was a series of investigations on why BMI increased after CPAP. Many possibilities were explored during this time frame trying to explain why CPAP caused weight gain in so many. Decreased BM...

Re: Searching for REM sleep

Rebound REM sleep in new CPAP patients is well-known phenomenon. However, all studies I found claiming improved sleep architecture after initiation of CPAP look at just 3 months duration. That is NOT long term by any means. There can be many confounders in evaluating changes in sleep after CPAP. - l...

Re: Searching for REM sleep

Published Scientific papers have shown that CPAP does decrease REM sleep. Not a lot you can do about that. Just part of therapy. Anything you might take like Melatonin or other herbs likely won't help. They just help you fall asleep. I have had minimal REM and deep sleep for decades. Unlikely I can...

Re: Chin Strap recommendations please

Tongue stabilizer might be a solution. If you don't have TMJ problems, a mouthguard might help.

Re: ResMed AirSense / AirCurve 10 Humidifier Chamber running dry in middle of the nght

LOL. I was using ResMed 9 data. 380ml still not enough for high pressure.

Just found Fisher & Paykal makes an external humidifier you can add to any setup. HK150

Re: ResMed AirSense / AirCurve 10 Humidifier Chamber running dry in middle of the nght

I have had problems with water chamber going dry in middle of night for years. One reason I always insist on ResMed. Its chamber is 360ml. Phillips is only 300ml. I live in very humid area. I need room dehumidifier in summer (room humidity 65%). In winter when central heat on, room humidity can drop...

Re: Chin Strap recommendations please

Chin straps can push in your lower jaw making obstruction worse. Can also aggrevate any TMJ issues. What do you specifically want to accomplish with chin strap? Likely better things to try than chin strap.

Re: AHI not good metric to determine CPAP effectiveness

I personally have self-monitored my OSA treatment for decades. If I consistently see low AHI, I assume all is well. But periodic OSCAR or RESCAN is important. I notice trends that are important aside from AHI. I view self-monitoring xPAP treatment as important as diabetic monitoring blood sugar exce...

Re: DreamStations don't display AHI?

Thank you for all your help. My sister's DreamStation 2 now displays AHI in morning. She's figured out how to navigate menus. Very grateful.

Re: DreamStations don't display AHI?

Just discovered OSCAR says my sisters machine is AUTO ADVANCED. And APRIA making her use CPAP mode. Shameful 😱 Ok. She wants to set to AUTO mode. It is on CPAP at 10 flex 2. What should set AUTO to? From her OSCAR data, she had bunch of hypopneas between 4 and 6 AM with AHI at 6. Auto mode should he...

Re: DreamStations don't display AHI?

My sister is able to to see data on sdcard in OSCAR. And see data in Philips App. Totally weird. Her defective DREAMSTATION displayed AHI on display in AM. Total pain to l use App to just see AHI each morning. She is sending me OSCAR and App screnshots to see what data is available. OSCAR Data Event...

Re: DreamStations don't display AHI?

My sister says no "Patient Data" option in Provider Menu. The last 3 items in menu do not have have "Patient Data" under them. Here are photos she sent. This is straight CPAP DREAMSTATION 2.
