Re: Respiratory Rate of 7 on ASV - UARS x 13 years
It seems I have UARS My 2nd sleep doc told me anyone with sleep apnea has UARS. There is overlap, for sure. I agree that most people with OSA also have upper airway resistance and some arousals related to incomplete obstruction. But both conditions are usually multifactorial and complex. Fortunatel...

Re: Respiratory Rate of 7 on ASV - UARS x 13 years
Do you have any suggestions for alternative settings? It would seem the shifting in and out of these low RR sessions is not good therapy. Other than one guy in New Mexico, TTBOMK, nobody advocates using ASV to treat UARS. Your knowledge is valid. He's in Savannah, GA now (relocated from NM). I've b...

Re: Respiratory Rate of 7 on ASV - UARS x 13 years
Here's another Z-episode to look at: https://i.imgur.com/sG1SdTi.jpg In the beginning there's normal breathing. If this was sleep. RR is increasing so this might be a REM period. Good a guess as any. Anyway, there's an arousal as REM is wont to have. Followed by a little disturbance of no great con...

Do you have a DropBox link I could upload to ? You need to create that at your end. Here's a link if anyone wants to download my Resmed ASV sleep data. 118 MB. For anyone that takes the time to download and have a look: THANK YOU! https://ln5.sync.com/dl/2bdf1e0f0/p56xaeu8-r483j8ah-sm68pvnh-7h4ps54a

Re: Respiratory Rate of 7 on ASV - UARS x 13 years
For my asv charts, 12 bpm or a little higher would mean asleep, and 7 bpm would mean not asleep. Rough troughs at 7bpm in the respiratory rate chart come with recollections of awakening, smooth troughs at 7bpm come with no recollections of awakenings. It took awhile to figure out the awakenings wer...

Re: Respiratory Rate of 7 on ASV - UARS x 13 years
That's a weird sleep period. I'm thinking N3, not REM. By weird sleep period, your bedtime is 4 AM. I mean, there are night owls and there are night owls. I'd still have to bet REM as the location is about right (first starts at ~90 minutes after sleep onset)(assuming you're sleeping) and it would ...

Re: Respiratory Rate of 7 on ASV - UARS x 13 years
Feel like uploading the whole SD card to dropbox for dissecting? Cause your breathing pattern seems to be able to allow you to sneak by the ability of ASV to make a classic attack, and it's choosing to make a PS attack instead. One wonders if what you got shouldn't be getting ASVed. Do you have a D...

Re: Respiratory Rate of 7 on ASV - UARS x 13 years
[img[/img] Can you load a zoom screen shot of the first episode? The expiratory times don't line up. That's a weird sleep period. Feel like uploading the whole SD card to dropbox for dissecting? Conceivably could be REM-related. Got an oximeter to simulmonitor with the ASV? I've uploaded a zoom in f...

Re: Respiratory Rate of 7 on ASV - UARS x 13 years
1. Does suddenly dropping from a RR of around 12 to 7 on ASV (with metronome-like, sinusoidal flow tracings) indicate any sort of pathology. ... I'd be interested in the answer to this. As I said, I have seen the same thing in my traces and it doesn't seem to cause any specific problems. I had a ve...

Re: Respiratory Rate of 7 on ASV - UARS x 13 years
I've seen the same slow metronome breathing occasionally on my ASV machines. From memory the Resmed ASV operates at the patient's own breathing rate until that falls below 8 bpm, at which stage the backup rate kicks in. What I suspect is happening is that your breathing has got down below the 8 bpm...

Re: Respiratory Rate of 7 on ASV - UARS x 13 years
A constant fixed minimum PS of 10 is pretty much guaranteed to cause more centrals. It is better to have a nice regular/normal PS with the ASV machine and then if/when centrals happen the machine will increase the PS to help you deal with the centrals for a breath or two...then it reduces back down...
