Cpap titration study hygiene

I was wondering whether it is hygienic to do titration studies as the labs use one cpap machine shared over time by hundreds of patients when titrating their recommended pressure settings in the lab. Does the air that people breathe out during usage get inside the machine or is all of it vented out ...

Re: UARS - No improvement in symptoms even after a month on CPAP

I was told by my sleep doc that my pressure setting is supposed to be 7. He did not tell me anything about EPR. Am I supposed to use EPR at all?

Re: UARS - No improvement in symptoms even after a month on CPAP

Thanks a lot, it is very interesting to zoom in on the Flow Rate chart like this. I had a look at a section, I checked one hour of flow rate and it is mostly rhytmic but there are 11 events in the one hour I checked. 11 arrythmias of breathing. I guess those could result in RERAs or at least abnorma...

Re: sleeping after discontinuing CPAP?

In my nine years of using CPAP I've discontinued using it for a night or two - not by choice. I can tell you I just slept crappy - not worse than I used to, just crappy like I used to. One time the machine wouldn't start and I couldn't figure out why (my stupid, it was fine). Another time I went to...

Re: UARS - No improvement in symptoms even after a month on CPAP

Thank you Pugsy. Should I just keep upping my pressure by 1, like instead of 7 try 8, then next night 9, then 10, etc.? Until I feel alright? Would this be a good strategy? I am willing to experiment. How do other UARS sufferers find their correct treatment? Do their symptoms vanish right after find...

Re: UARS - No improvement in symptoms even after a month on CPAP

I only felt good the day after my titration study, only until the evening. After that as I kept using my machine at home my symptoms were back to normal as before. The team has not replied to me when I told them my symptoms persisted even though I'm using the machine. I believe that I may have other...

Re: UARS - No improvement in symptoms even after a month on CPAP

I'm not sure, I think it was about 30 RERAs an hour, I can check later perhaps. Why? Because it's important to know how many RERAs for the UARS diagnosis. Your "quite a few" might be different from my "quite a few". You had a diagnostic sleep study using the Pes device...did they happen to also put...

Re: UARS - No improvement in symptoms even after a month on CPAP

had quite a few RERAs How many is "quite a few"? I was diagnosed with UARS, How did they come up with this diagnosis? Did you have a sleep study with a Pes device? Since then I've used the machine for about 5 weeks and I feel like my fatigue is at the same level as before and my sleep quality feels...

Re: sleeping after discontinuing CPAP?

It's just plain denial. I can't convince my father to test for apnea or try my backup CPAP. He gives exactly the same excuses. The dependency thing isn't logical ... would he not wear glasses, not wear dentures, or not use a cane because he would become dependent on it? There is a carryover effect ...

UARS - No improvement in symptoms even after a month on CPAP

I was diagnosed with UARS, I had quite a few RERAs but no more than 4 apnea events / hour. The night in the lab the day after my first sleep study they put the CPAP on me I slept quite well and I felt quite alright the next day although now I believe it was placebo effect as I wanted it to work so s...

Re: sleeping after discontinuing CPAP?

Thank you for these great replies. Are there any actual studies that I could show him? Any scientific evidence I mean.

sleeping after discontinuing CPAP?

One of my relatives probably has sleep apnea and he said he believes if he would start using CPAP and he would discontinue it one day for some reason he would not be able to sleep or have worse sleep quality than before CPAP because he believes it causes dependency as he thinks the machine pushes ai...
