How does PAP unit connect with WiFi?

Post by WhatMeSnore » Mon Jul 14, 2014 5:07 pm

Just a technical question. The DME rep said my BiPAP unit has a wifi antenna in order to send info on my therapy to the insurance company and my doctor.
But how would the unit connect with the wifi in my house? I didn't give the rep the WEP code for my wifi router. Also, I was using it in a hotel last week, which happened to have wifi that my phone could automatically connect with. But if it was the typical kind of hotel where you have to enter a code to connect to the wifi, how would the unit do that?

Just wondering...

I'm just guessing, but he probably means cellular data, but Wi-Fi is easier to understand--for who? .
Remember, he's a doctor, not necessarily a computer whiz.

I think it's a cellular modem, not a wifi.

I guess you guys are right - it looks like the antenna on an oldish cell phone.

BTW, it wasn't the doctor who said that, but the who delivered the unit and showed me how to use it.

I've heard tales of ALL SORTS of .... things come out the mouths of people at DMEs..

it's hard to know whether they're lies, or ignorance.

Aha! the delivery guy--not the doctor. I would give the doc the benefit--not his field.
There has been some discussion of connecting with our home Wi-Fi or BT, often discouraging.
If someone figures out how, it just may happen here! (fingers crossed)

someone somewhere, now I can't remember if it was in this or another forum, was experimenting with toshibi wifi sd cards and having some success at not having to swap the card around all the time.

They show it connected on an old S8 unit.

Surely it would work with my S9 Autoset too.

Can we get that software that it reports to so that the machine would automatically send data to this computer over my home wi-fi?

I've got the PR 560 with a modem on the back. The modem has a little antenna on it, and a button on the side for the first sending session. If I pull the entire unit off the back, directly underneath is the SD card slot.
The modem apparently sends data at the same time every morning, so long as the unit is powered on and the modem is attached. It's an automated thing. This is also how someone can hop in and adjust your pressures if prescription has changed...it's got nothing to do with Wi-Fi, however, as far as I know. Lack of connection with my phone service, etc has no effect on the machine's ability to send info.
