Kinda Silly Question
Kinda Silly Question
When you get up during the night to go to the bathroom.
Do you just remove your mask? or turn off your machine too?
I've just been removing my mask and laying it on my pillow until I return.
But was wondering if I should turn machine off, so it's not blowing wildly.

I have never removed my mask just unhooked the hose and turned off the machine.

Re: Kinda Silly Question
I'm the same as Nan, I just shut off the machine and disconnect my mask from the hose. Some men say they can't see to do it with the mask on, so just sit down no one is looking.

Re: Kinda Silly Question
I just remove the hose and leave the mask on, and my DME told me that with my equipment I don't need to turn the machine off, because it will recognize that I'm not breathing and turn off automatically. When I plug the hose back in, it notices my breathing and turns back on. Why redo the mask and headgear if you don't have to? Some people might need to turn the machine off, depending on what machine you have.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.
Re: Kinda Silly Question
I take it off, just to give my face a little break. I find taking off and putting on the Quattro to be such a smooth, simple motion that unhooking the hose seems almost like more work. I unbuckle on the left only, so putting it on is just pulling the mask down with one hand and clicking once with the other. I also turn the machine off, for no particularly good reason.

Re: Kinda Silly Question
I'm with you PST, it's allot easier to take off then disconnect the hose.
Just didn't know if I should turn off the machine or not.
Sounds like it doesn't really matter, one way or the other.
Thanks.

Re: Kinda Silly Question
Turn off machine, unhook hose (always in that order).
Check Info (can't resist).
Usually, I pull the mask (Airfit P10 nasal pillows) down around my neck since I am going to re-seat the pillow before going back to bed anyway.
Throw the pigtail nose over my shoulder to keep it "out of the way".
(Sitting down doesn't work to fully empty the bladder for some men.)
But, I am NOT getting up "To Go To The Bathroom" anymore -- I am getting up once per night, most nights, for some other reason, e.g., use saline, thirsty, fix the mask seat, dog is barking,....

Re: Kinda Silly Question
Turn off the machine and remove the mask.
With pillows it's not that hard to get it quickly back into place.
I turn off the machine before removing the mask, because even though it will shut off by itself it makes a big whooshing sound that could potentially wake up my wife.
My first DME suggested that I could just keep the mask on and disconnect the hose, but I found that to be a much bigger nuisance.

Re: Kinda Silly Question
The first week, I left the mask on; after that, I pulled it off. (putting it on is easier with practice)
I always shut the machine off. Now, I rarely have to go until morning,
-----so it's no longer an issue.

I rarely have to get up to go any more... but if it does happen I take mask off and turn off machine.

I always take the mask off because its a chance to refit the mask and help prevent leaks!

Re: Kinda Silly Question
Since CPAP therapy I don't get up anymore to go to the bathroom. If I do happen to get awake by a pet -I -never remove my mask, I just unhook the hose and turn off the machine, go potty and get back in bed. Reattach hose and turn machine back on.....

Re: Kinda Silly Question
While I rarely get up in the middle of the night when I do I shut the machine off and take off my mask.
After over 2000 times putting the mask on and getting it straight for a proper fit I am pretty good at it even if I am not fully awake. What's the old adage... Practice makes perfect.
This practice came about when I was using the Swift FX. I have a lot of problems with the small hose. To help I have a Pad A Cheek hose cover for my main hose and also a cover for the small hose. My small hose would sometimes break right at the connector where it attaches to the large hose. To help with this I run the larger hose cover over the end of the small hose (and small hose cover) and this keeps that area from breaking as frequently. When I switch to the Nuance I just kept doing this. The bottom line is that it is more involved to disconnect my small hose than it is to just take the mask off.

Re: Kinda Silly Question
I will turn the machine of and unhook the hose. If I have to yell at my teenager to go to bed, I'll take the mask off.
