2-Month Check Up

Post by Oddprofessor » Thu Jan 16, 2014 12:58 pm

I went in on Tuesday for my 2-month review. I already knew that my numbers were good and getting better from my daily use of Sleepyhead. What I wasn't prepared for was the confetti-throwing, brass-band huzzah-ing that I got from the nurse-practitioner, respiratory therapist, and DME tech. This is my useage and AHI from Nov.13 to Jan 16:

The three of them were almost popping champagne bottles over these numbers. I was kind of surprised; yeah, I wore the contraption every night. Isn't that what I was supposed to do? But apparently a lot of people have difficulty adjusting, and that leads them to wear it for short periods, or to miss lots of nights. My experience isn't so bad, I guess.

The NP is referring me to an ENT for chronic allergies; she thinks that my problem with having a stuffy nose every night may be because of chronic inflammation and possible blockages in my sinuses. I have to say that a couple of the acupressure points that she showed me that are related to sinuses are immensely tender to even very light pressure, if that means anything.

I told the NP that it's clear that I'm sleeping better, but that I still wasn't feeling any different than I did last November when I started this. She told me was that it can take up to 2 years to completely recover from the damage caused by apnea left untreated for so long, but that as time goes on, I should start feeling more alert. I don't care about alert; I never was awfully sleepy during the day. I want to have some enthusiasm for life again! I have the best job, the best husband, the best home, and the best family one could wish for; I am blessed in every way, but I just don't feel any gusto anymore, and I used to have plenty of it. Let's hope that I don't have to wait 2 years. In the meantime, it seems as if I'm doing all right.

Glad to read you are sleeping better and you recognize that. You are just getting started in your cpap therapy and reads like you are adjusting well. I noticed a complete improvement in 6 months time. I was diagnosed severe so my case is different then yours. Good sleep is necessary for good health.

Just hang in there it will come in time.

I wish you well!
