Your machine may need service--or replacement.
It sounds like you have been fiddling with it for quite a while;
it's only a matter of time before the switch wears out completely.
You may have to start thinking about a replacement machine--before you have to sleep without.

Have you thought of setting the menu for auto on and auto off? If the machine senses you are breathing into the mask, it will automatically turn on and the opposite happens when its set to auto off.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Bob, the "auto" that nan is referring to is called "Smart Start" by ResMed.
Here's a link to the ResMed S8 Elite clinical manual - if you don't have it.
http://www.resmed.com/us/assets/documen ... er_eng.pdf
There are others available. Just Google ResMed S8 Clinical Manual.

Of course, smart start may not be available if you have an escape.
