Stomach trouble? This simple change made a huge improvement

Post by Tech Guy » Mon Nov 11, 2013 12:22 am

Had a duodenal ulcer for many years. Thought it might be a gall bladder issue but doesn't appear so. I'm not someone who likes to take pills for everything. For starters, I don't drink alcohol. Quit caffeine long ago. After a chain of doctors could never diagnose sleep apnea and preferred to attempt to push pills, the only control I had was what I put into my body. Nutrition has been a huge focus for a number of years. Not dieting, but nutrition. Even eating very cleanly (no packaged or boxed foods, minimal white flour and sugar) mostly "whole foods" discovered something the last few weeks. As an experiment, quit my tall decaf coffee from Starbucks. This is the smallest one they sell. Other than a few hiccups here and there, quitting coffee has made a SIGNIFICANT improvement and reduction in stomach pain and discomfort. This takes will power friends and coffee is extremely acidic. One small cup in the morning affected the entire day and evening. I drink a little cayenne pepper in OJ for quick natural remedy. Have also been juicing cabbage which is a long time tradition and organic remedy for stomach issues. As much as I love the taste of Starbucks coffee, enjoy a pain-free day even better

I also started having stomach pains. Dr couldn't figure out why. Then my husband read the affects of acid reflux meds and stomach issues. I went to a DO and he told me to drink celery juice, 1/4 cup every morning, wait 10 minutes and drink 16 oz of water. Wow! Haven't been on reflux meds in over a year now.

That's great. I juice a handful of vegetables depending on what's needed at the time. Usually carrots, celery, red cabbage, green bell, some ginger root, bok choy (part of the cabbage family) and some fruit. There is nothing more nutritious you can put into your body than fresh vegetable juice. Fruit has a lot of sugar, so the focus is vegetables. It's easy to drive to the closest hamburger place and order a hamburger and fries lol but your body will be hurting later! Having sleep apnea is not convenient and requires special nutritional consideration. This country doesn't have a healthcare problem, but a health problem! Everywhere you look commercials to eat. The average person consumes 700 chemicals a day. Pouring chemicals, oils, saturated fats, non-healthy foods and beverages and manufactured foods into the body is a recipe for disaster. If you're someone with a health problem besides sleep apnea, can improve things tremendously with some will power and REAL nutrition on a daily basis.

Sure and then take the 45 minute bus trip to work!

For people who are busy and on the go, can buy carrot juice from any market. Read the lables. A number of store bought vegetable juice contains a ton of sugar. Remember, sugar kills the immune system! Most of America lives on white sugar and white flour. No wonder this country has a health epidemic. Sometimes, I prepare the juice at night and keep it in the fridge till morning, then gulp it down on the go. One can of soda contains 16 tsp of sugar. If you're not willing to make some sacrifices and stop ingesting foods and chemicals that are making your situation worse, then don't expect anything to change. Asking for more pills from the doctor is just adding insult to injury. A friend once told me, "If you do nothing, can expect one result....Nothing."

Well lucky for me I work 4 miles from my house but I tried not to schedule anything for weekend mornings. It took 5 months of drinking celery juice to get my tummy back in order. I didn't know then that sleep apnea also causes GERD.

Yes and diuretic pills for high blood pressure. They kept telling me "Take them in the Morning!!!" no way! Trying to get into work, through security and out of my winter gear to get to the bathroom!!! That lasted one week.

I didn't know about the diuretic pills for HBP. I take mine at night and since starting cpap I think I've only gotten up 3x for a trip to the bathroom. I wake up a few times but go righ back to sleep.

They are old school meds but the work for me and the don't have any side effects ... except for the obvious one.

A relative who thinks drugs are the answer to everything who has struggled with reflux issues would say causation doesn't equal correlation. Can't repeat what I wanted to say in response.

Congratulations on your success. I am sure that is a big relief.

Increasing my minimum pressure helped my stomach problems, even though that's counterintuitive. Food/medication also seems to be involved.
