Health crisis in USA. Fructose is poison & in many foods.

Watch this video and understand why there is a health crisis. Stumbled on it and thought some might be interested in improving their health. It's a few years old and well worth the time to watch it from start to finish.

I am still rocking in disbelief that so many people buy the BS about agave.
It IS fructose! It has carbs and calories comparable to Karo syrup--chemically, it's nearly identical!
This stuff is marketed to DIABETICS! It might be of some use to raise dangerously low blood sugar,
but it is slightly slow for that, which may lead to overdosing.
In any case, it is NOT safe for diabetics--quite the opposite.

Sugar is sugar. Guess the point is to eat fiber with every meal. Quit or cut back soda, sports drinks and try to focus on water or natural fruit juices. These super tankers of soda at 7-11 for .99 is hurting america. For those who want the reader's digest version of the above video, sugar is putting weight on people and causing issues, not necessarily fat. Focus on nutrition not dieting. The doc in the video, said people who have type 2 diabetes can cure it in about a week if they switched to the paleo diet. The healthcare system isn't the problem. The issue is just people's health. Eat better - feel better!

Yes, I have seen that before. It isn't fat, it's sugar and carbs that's killing us..

By the way, for those who don't have time for the 1.5 hour version there is a shorter, 10 minute summary at:

Sugar: The Bitter Truth (The SHORT Version)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdMjKEncojQ

It's not the same speaker, but it's an interesting video in my opinion.

I seriously doubt a paleo diet is a cure, but I'm sure it can help.

Your advice about nutrition and eat better is good. There's just one problem. It is either quite difficult, or quite costly, to do that in today's society given that, what 90%+, of our food is factory processed with all sorts of added chemicals and the natural state totally destroyed. We, as a society, demand cheap food available to everyone. Truly nutritious and unprocessed food runs totally contrary to that goal. We will never again have really fresh ripe peaches in the grocery store until customers are willing to accept blotched and discolored peaches being included in the mix. Nor will we have healthy servings of cereals and vegetables until homemakers are willing once again to cook food from scratch at home.

We are nation of contradictions between health and convenience, and convenience seems to almost always win. Hence, health loses.

It is difficult and can be expensive, but worth it. My husband and I made a commitment to eating REAL FOOD, not packaged stuff. We cook all our meals, we shop at farmers markets and local farms as much as we can. We spend a lot of money for organic produce, pastured meat, eggs, and dairy, and wild caught fish. But we don't spend money on snacks foods, cereals, desserts, etc. We rarely eat out and we save by cooking from scratch.

I really notice it when my kids have food drives at school and we have nothing in packages or cans to contribute! I have to go buy stuff to donate. We ferment and dry foods to preserve them, we buy and eat offal both because its healthful and cheap, we stretch food as much as we can (I can get three meals for four people from a single chicken!).

As a result, we are never sick, my pre-diabetes is under good control, I've lost 70 lbs (so far).

We both work full time, and this takes a lot of our spare time, but we feel we are doing something really positive for our family. We sit down to meals with our kids and they know that we are concerned for them, their health, their future, and the health of our environment. The come with us to the farms and see the people and animals that produce our food. They know our food does not come from supermarket packages.

Eating healthfully is hard, being sick and overweight is hard, too, no matter how easy the food might be. We've chosen health.

At 74 with pre diabetes (medicated), peripheral neuropathy (extremely uncomfortable and medicated with an opiate), weight that would not budge, and several auto immune things, I decided to try the "Wheat Belly" (William Davis) plan- figured it wouldn't kill me in 2 weeks. It did not kill me at all; that was in mid-July.

As of now, My walker is still in the trunk of my car unused, 17 pounds have dropped off, the Metformin is no longer needed for blood sugar management, the weird fog in my brain is gone, I hope to soon be able to back off of pain medication. I can take the dog for a walk around the block without fear of falling. My doc was pretty excited about greatly improved lab values.

Prior to this many, many docs told me to get used to the neuropathy--"nothing can be done "-- all the rest attributable to old age or RA or whatever. The BiPAP has helped -I'm sleeping in a bed again for 6-7 hours but it can not take credit for the dramatic and sudden improvements from lose of grains and most sugar from my food.

Eating better has not been easy. I feel like a new bride learning to cook with real food. My husband and I spend a lot more time in the kitchen. I'm learning and healing.

LOL!

Truthfully, that's how I felt ALL the time on the Standard American Diet ("SAD"). I was in constant pain, short of breath walking across a room, horrible reflux and hearburn, muddled brain. I feel 1000% percent better now. No pain, no shortness of breath, very little reflux (still an issue I'm working on). I can walk miles, I can keep going all day long, I don't have to sit at every opportunity. Life is worth living again. I'll pick this "hard" over that any day.
