c-pap bed pillows
c-pap bed pillows
I am wanting to buy a c-pap bed pillow. What are the pros & cons on this and what would be the best style to buy. I am a side sleeper. Thanks for any advice & help.

Re: c-pap bed pillows
It is a very personal matter.
I found I couldn't use the contour pillow, because it is too tall, and leaves my neck sore.
Some people like the bead pillows; I found them too hard, and the buckwheat too noisy.
In my case, at least, the best pillow without cpap is also the best pillow with.

Re: c-pap bed pillows
Unlike Froggie, I use the Contour Cpap pillow. It is a memory foam pillow with cut outs that allow you to sleep on your side without pillow interference. As all memory foam beds and pillows (pillers') they are hard and they retain heat, so some people have issues with the heat. I have the Temperpedic adjustable bed and the contour pillow, (along with no leaks and an AHI average of .2 or .3) and I feel great and get the ultimate sleep experience. Some folks will get a memory foam pillow and provide their own cut outs. I have thought about enlarging my cutouts because I have such a large and cumbersome mask, but that's as far as I have gotten... sometimes what I think about doin' and what I have done don't match up. I gotta' know my limitations...

If you do buy one I would suggest you buy locally rather than online. Sometimes something that looks good online just doesnt work when you get it home, and if you buy locally you can always take it back without having to pay return shipping, etc. Just dont unwrap it before you try it on your bed with your CPAP mask...I am one of the ones that took their own trusty memory foam pillow and made side cutouts with a regular scissors. Works for me.
PS Bed, Bath and Beyond used to sell them if you have one nearby.

I recently purchased this pillow. I'm 5'1" and ordered the 3 inch pillow. The 4 inch size would have been too high for me. I used it for the first time last night and like it. It's different from my regular pillow so will probably take a few nights to adjust. Definitely helped keep the mask from moving around and great neck support.

Hmmm, yes it is a very personal choice...been using one with the same shape as yours for over a year now (4.5" thick, good for me for side sleeping), mine came from cpap.com:ems wrote:http://www.coreproducts.com/featured-pr ... illow.html

I also have tried a buckwheat hull pillow (which was too hard for me), and one of these (which just didn't work for me):

I also tried a Tempurpedic that we had around here already, it was promising but too small, and I haven't tried another of those yet. Like to do that, but it's more than twice the price of the one I've been using.
Anyways, I keep coming back to the "Papillow" from above, seems to be the best pillow for me that I've tried so far. A little firm, but not too firm, and some firmness helps keep things in one place.
I keep trying new pillows, trying to get the most comfort and longest night's sleep *smile*.
Anyways, that one works for me, too, enjoy!

This one works for me . I'm a side sleeper. http://www.contourliving.com/p-253-cpapmax-pillow.aspx. It has two different surface material. The center piece can be removed
which make it easier on my old arthritic neck. It has been more comfortable than their thicker models.

For me, what worked best was a good old-fashioned down feather pillow (hypoallergenic) that I got from LL Bean online. I can smoosh and form it any way I need to - around or under my mask as need be for the position I'm sleeping in.

With xPAP therapy, do or do not; there is no try.
Re: c-pap bed pillows
After trying every cpap pillow ever created, the one we've finally settled on is an Eddie Bauer down pillow from Costco, it's filled enough to give support but soft enough to mold and not dislodge the mask.LoneStar wrote:For me, what worked best was a good old-fashioned down feather pillow (hypoallergenic) that I got from LL Bean online.
