Clarifications: Old Mask Did Not Fall Out of Car:Mask Needed

Post by CheBella » Thu Jul 11, 2013 3:44 pm

I just realized that when I mentioned that my current mask was "leftover from a sleep study," it might sound a little fishy, as if it had gotten lost falling out of my spouse's car. It was the mask they used in my last sleep study, that they send home w/the patient.
Phew! Glad that's cleared up; I would hate to have my mask have a bad reputation.

Along with my new beloved APAP, Warrant (because, if you need a rest, you have to have a Warrant)
I bought the new-ish oral "mask", Oracle. Big mistake. Since I have a pesky case of thrush hanging on, and accompanying desert mouth all the time anyway,
the Oracle make my mouth feel like bleached bones in the Mohave within a few minutes.
You would think I could have figured that out ahead of time.
I had a basic ComfortGel at home, leftover from a sleep study & have been using that. It's medium and a bit large. I'm always adjusting it to get the puffs of air out of my eyes.
Since I pretty much broke the bank on Warrant, the Oracle, etc (even at the lowest prices of our host) I just can't bear to plunk down major bucks on a new mask that may or may not work.
(I paid 100% out-of-pocket, since it was cheaper than going through Medicare & Apria, boo, hiss.)
Now I find that I could have gotten an APAP here for much less. I could smack myself.
Well, at least I can get a new mask for much less (I hope.)
Anyone have a Small mask to sell, or barter?
Please let me know what y'all might have.

Thank you, and Good Afternoon.

Could you please clarify "small mask"?
Which type? Still sticking with a full face or try something else?
Would a small cushion for the existing PR ComfortGel work?
I think I have a couple of unused cushions but I think they are the large size. I will go check though to make sure.

Please pardon my ignorance; I'm probably just a "slow study". What is this talk of Warrant, Oracle and the mask falling (or not falling) out of the car? I'm newly diagnosed and trying to get with the lingo. Thank you

Warrant is the name she has given to her machine. Some people do name their machine. Mine is just "La (the) Machine" but sort of a different take on it...Albert Pujols was referred to in St Louis when he was a Cardinal as "La Machine"...I am a Cardinal fan..I am an Albert Pujols fan (or was till he defected) and he is so darn good looking that I liked to sort of think about saying I was sleeping with "La machine". My husband just laughed about it. He knows I think Albert is hot....he has a couple of ladies that he thinks are hot too. I don't care and he doesn't care that I think a couple of guys are hot.....Sean Connery is the other one.

The Oracle is a type of cpap mask that she bought and ended up hating.

Not sure what the falling out of the car reference means but it may mean that she didn't find her mask laying on the ground (lost after falling out of someone's car and thus free) in that she had to pay for it.

I believe that "falling out of a car" refers to a recent post where the poster
shadily got a mask via his wife's insurance company by lying about hers
spontaneously exiting a vehicle.

The "Warrant" is a joke! Or play on words ...

She is tired, and needs "a rest" (arrest) - sometimes times you need a "warrant" to make an arrest!

If you have insurance, and are starting out, your doctor may be able to over-ride the 3 month restriction
with an RX for the specific mask or a letter of medical necessity in support of a different mask right away.

I'm so sorry, here I thought I was being clear, but it turned out as clear as mud.

To new users:
Please forgive me, I forget that not everyone on this site hangs out here like it's an old neighborhood front porch, and that some things wind up as inside jokes.
My community neighbors explained things well (while I was, literally, napping -- and without Warrant -- boo hiss)

The "fall out of car" thing

is indeed a reference to a former poser -- ooh, I mean poster -- who complained at great length about not getting a $22 refund;
I thought the deal was that, as his wife was a RT (Respiratory Therapist) she had masks in her car (to bring to patients or whatever) and if he wanted a new one, she would take it from work and then tell her employer that it got lost by falling out of her car.
He was less than pleasant to community members, and, when a former post was found in which he bragged about this method, some fun was had at the level of morality that was shown by this.

"Warrant" is indeed my Auto Bi-Level machine's name and a (well I thought it was clever--maybe I watch too much Law & Order) clever play on words.
I like Pugsy's style in her naming, but I would have had to go with Robert (Redford) and my mother had designs on him also, so that is sorta gross.

more later; DH (Dear Husband) needs the computer

First, sorry y'all, my computer has been off-line for days (since shortly after I said "I have to go, DH needs to use computer"...hmmm)

Shawn, did you get PM? I had a few probs getting it thru.

Small in size, but still Full Face.
I'm not sure if a new cushion would work; it doesn't look like it, as the outer shell of the mask is totally hard...I'll find out
Thank you for checking; I'm going to try Shawn's Quattro.

I only have Medicare. I found that the DME's that Medicare uses wind up charging more for my 20% that I can pay 100% out-of-pocket when I bought my machine.
But, it might not be the same with supplies...I'll check.

Thanks all

I wasn't aware that I was using a different language.
I was trying to explain a somewhat complicated situation as clearly and correctly as possible.

I might...stress might have a Small Quattro FX...I can't swear to it until I go through a bunch of stuff.
I have something along those lines but I can't remember...it might be like the one Shawn is sending.
Let me know if it doesn't work out for you and I will by then should figure out exactly which one it is that I have.
Pretty sure it is a small and it is a complete full face mask...but I forget the exact model and my organization skills at listing what all I have here in the donated stockpile....suck.
