I wonder if someone could fashion a sheet out of Tyvek house wrap. It's tough stuff (some priority air envelopes are made from Tyvek). Or maybe Kevlar.
You'd place it under a mattress pad and regular sheet, of course.

I woke up one day about to test my CPAP equipment as an underwater breather. That wasn't fun. Thank GOD for the liner! I really wouldn't want to explain all that to the landlord....
Now with the air mattress I only wake up on a hard bed bottom, no water. But it happens too often. And the mattresses don't last long anyway. I may invest in a grown-up air mattress (ie, something like a Sleep Number bed) where the bladders are significantly protected from claws, but that's a whole lotta money....
They have grown up waterbeds too - they are so well insulated that they don't need a heater - and they are well protected from animals.

I just joined, but had to respond to the bed and pillow comments. Anyone shopping for a new mattress (or pillow) should definitely consider a latex mattress (pillow). We replaced my wife's 20-ish year old mattress in 2010 with a 100% latex mattress, and OMG it's the best bed I've ever slept on. (And I had a waterbed that I absolutely loved for a couple years in high school.) It is kind of similar to the high-quality memory foam mattresses, but without the drawbacks. It supports without being stiff, molds to your body without retaining that shape when you roll over, it doesn't get too hot, etc. I love it so much that I finally bought a 100% talalay latex pillow a few months ago, too. Another one that's awesome. The best thing I can say about it is that it supports my head and neck while feeling like it's not really there.
The two biggest drawbacks are the cost and the research involved. The latex can be made in various densities, and figuring out what is likely to be most comfortable for you is going to be tricky. Some manufacturers allow you to buy a mattress in "slices/layers" of various densities, so you can mix and match, move them around after purchase, etc. We ended up buying from Costco because the bed had great reviews on a mattress forum and Costco has a generous return policy. As for the cost, our Cal King was $1350 from Costco on sale back in 2010, but they don't carry it anymore. The new ones from the same manufacturer are mostly memory foam (6"-8") with about 4" of latex on top. I have no experience with those and don't know if I would like them as much.

I've never heard of a Latex mattress. I'm glad to hear that they are not like the memory foam. This might be something I do for my son who has moved in to finish school. Thanks for the heads up!

Changing the C-flex down to 1 seems to be working very well, though now I'm dealing with leaks. I don't know if it's my mouth or my mask. While I don't wake up with dry mouth, I think it is probably my mouth coming opening - as I woke up at one point right before it did. My tongue wasn't vacuumed into the top of my mouth like it usually is and there was air filling my mouth (so of course my cheeks were chipmonked out).
I'll tape tonight and see if that resolves it. If so, I may be taping for the duration. I'm sleeping so much better with the exception of this little snag.
If the taping isn't the issue, then I'll rethink the mask and go from there. I can't use the Lansinoh (though I'm thinking of doing the milk of magnesia thing and seeing if that might help me tolerate the Lansinoh) and the KY dried out way too fast for it to be of help in the early AM. I'm thinking of concocting a honey salve to see if that might work. **laughing** I tried putting honey into the ky to see if I could reproduce the stick of the Lansinoh. . .no go.
If the mask is the problem and I can't get it to seal, I may be in the market to find a different mask.
If any one else has any other ideas - I'm all ears.

it sounds great that you are much happy to use them. it's really comfortable to use air bed mattress & for that reason, it's getting popular day by day.
