Where can I get a new Resmed S9 oximeter adapter?

Post by Suddenly Worn Out » Fri Apr 12, 2013 11:49 pm

Where can I get the following?

1) Resmed S9 oximeter adapter to plug into the back of my S9 APAP product code 36940

2) The appropriate fingertip pulse oximeter designed to be used with the S9 APAP? I think I read it is a nonin brand

Do I need a prescription for these? If so, once I get the prescription from my doctor, where online is a good place to order them from?

I dont know much about the "built in" or integrated Resmed S9 recording oximeter, although I think its a good option to have if you need it. I already have a Nonin pulse Ox recording oximeter I bought years ago, but rarely use. the times I have used it, its provided some useful info to kinda check up on things.

Ive been "bottoming out" my S9 APAP pressures in the last eight days, went from the 95th percentile in the high 13s and the 14s before the tonsillectomy. Immediately afterward, Ive developed a 95th percentile in the 19.6 range range which is very unusual for me. Still not sure if its all from the swelling in my throat and painkiller medications Im on right now, but suspect at least some of it is.

Im thinking getting a good built in S9 oximeter might be a good idea in case I need to get it documented Im desaturating again, so I can get an rx for a Bipap again in case my pressures dont go back down in a month or two.

Thanks,

Eric

Economically you would be better off picking up a finger tip recording oximeter and using that. You can coordinate the graphs by time.

The units that plug into the machine run at around $1500 or so.

Where do you get them at on the Internet?

It looks like you need a prescription for the interface unit that plugs into the machine, but the finger tip unit that plugs into the interface runs around $300.

I tried to get just that in December 2011.
You can get the whole "kit" from ResMed which includes everything (including some supplies).

I knew my insurance (only BC / BS then) would NOT cover it.
But, my plan was to run it through them so it would be discounted heavily & then I would have to pay 100% of a much smaller amount.

Problems I encountered were:

The "price" was elusive - but the best I could come up with was an "estimate" of about $ 850 for everything (full retail BEFORE any BC/BS discount).

But, in the end, I was NOT able to find anyone who could (or would) get it for me - even though I did NOT mention running it through BC/BS to anyone.

Why are we told patients can't have access to this information?
They just tell us to,"Sit down, shut up, and sign the check."
I'm not taking this any more! (actually, I've always had a problem with being pushed around)

ResMed S9 Plug in Interface and the reusable pulse/o2 sensor plus tax was about $600. So far insurance is not paying. Got it from my DME.
