Provigil

Has anyone tried this medication for sleepiness during the day? My doctor presribed this because of daytime sleepiness and the fact that my numbers were all good after my sleep study.. I have no mask problems or trouble with c-pap just daytime sleepiness.. I went to the drug store where my doctor faxed my perscription to, and was shocked when told it would be $587.00 dollars for thirty pills..My health insurance does not cover perscriptions, the girl said it would have been more but she gave me the generic brand modafinil....Thanks I said, but cancel it...Someone is making big bucks on this perscription crap...Guess I will put up with daytime sleepiness.....

Competition. It just went generic and after the patent expires, one generic producer gets licensed to provide its version for a certain period of time, after which other companies can start producing it. Currently Mylan and Teva are producing modafinil.

You voted with your feet and your wallet. Enough others do likewise, the price will come down.

I have been on Provigil for several years. At first I had a hard time to get the Insurance to pay for it. Now it is generic and I only have a $10.00 co-pay. I works very well to keep you alert in the day time.

If your insurance copay is significantly less for generic, then you're good. The current generic (mfg by exact same company, even says Provigil on side of tablet), price is essentially the same until their period of exclusivity (6 months?). Once other generic companies are allowed t play, price should quickly plummet.

My Rx is for 60 per month, so i pay $15 and insurance pays about $2200-2300.

FWIW, I have tried both Provigil and Nuvigil, and my experience with both of them is that I quickly developed a tolerance, and they seemed to stop working. They also both caused a certain amount of sinus swelling, which mitigated their benefits as well.

My husband is taking provigil and it has helped him. We only have a $10.00 copay. If we had to pay out of pocket, he would definitely not be taking it

I have been using it for a few weeks and it has really helped. I think that I went to the nuvigil site and they had a card to help reduce the cost.
